Mothers Talk Lyrics

My features form with a change in the weather
We can
We can work it out

My features form with a change in the weather
We can
We can work it out

When the wind blows
When the mothers talk
When the wind blows

When the wind blows
When the mothers talk
When the wind blows

We can, only we can work it out

It's not that you're not good enough
It's just that we can make you better
Given that you pay the price
We can keep you young and tender

Following in the footsteps of a funeral pyre
You were paid not listen now your house is on fire

Wake me up when things get started
When everything starts to happen (happen, hey yeah)

My features form with a change in the weather
We can
We can work it out
My features form with a change in the weather
We can
We can work it out

When the wind blows
When the mothers talk
When the wind blows

When the wind blows
When the mothers talk
When the wind blows

We can, only we can work it out

Some of us are horrified
Others never talk about it
But when the weather starts to burn
Then you'll know that you're in trouble

Following in the footsteps of a soldier girl
It is time to put your clothes on and to face the world

Don't you feel your luck is changing
When everything starts to happen (happen, hey yeah)

Put your head right next to my heart
The beat of the drum is the fear of the dark

We can work it out
We can work it out (there's a change in the weather)

When the wind blows
When the mothers talk
When the wind blows

When the wind blows
When the mothers talk
When the wind blows

We can, only we can work it out

I think it's about vampires/werewolves

Surprised that there's no comments. Probably one of their best anti-nuclear songs, inspired by Raymond Briggs' 'When The Wind Blows'.

Glad you can figure out the song...

How's it an anti-nuke song?

Read "When the Wind Blows". As stated in the above comment. It's quite disturbing.

It's about how if you make ugly faces your face will stay like that when the wind changes. Maybe. This has actually become one of my favorite songs on Songs From the Big Chair even though it's not quite as timeless as the other singles, and the refrain "WE! CAN! WORK IT OUT!" is one of my favorite lines to sing along to.

And isn't it, "my futures form"?

I think it's a combination of a nuclear war song, and one of their paeans to record company pressure a la The Working Hour. "It's not that you're not good enough; it's just that we can make you better" is probably something some Mercury suit told them after The Hurting. Most of the song is just oblique references to nuclear destruction.

Hahahaha. I'm not trying to be immature about this song (it's a really good song), but has anyone noticed how much it sounds like "my bitches fall with the change in the weather" instead of the actual lyrics "my features form with the change in the weather. xD I found it quite amusing.

You aren't the only. I was 14 when this song came out and that's what I thought the lyrics were as well. I never knew what exactly Roland was saying until now.

Interesting...

I think that this song is partly about the resurgence of progressism and its belief that through social engineering and behavior modification we can all be turned unto better worker bees to slave away for the system, albiet, a nihilistic system.
