Change

The song seems to be about how we can change both for better and for worse. Also, that even after a change, we can still change, yet again. However, there's no guarantee that when you change your partner is going to accept you back. They may "change" as well. Life is funny that way.

This songs has such beautiful vocals. It stays with me.

To be honest, Change's lyrics sound like something that SHOULD make sense and should be deep, but really don't mean anything. I love the song at all and it has great synth melodies, but the lyrics really are enigmatic. Although the vocal melodies are great too, the lyrics themselves definitely seem to be written as an afterthought. Yes, it seems to be about change, about parting friends and a disagreement between them, but it's really quite vague.

A remastered copy of the album The Hurting says the following about "Change":

"Roland: 'It's not really about much. It's just one of those cheap pop lyrics.' Curt: 'A strange little pop song.'"

So there you go :-)

I noticed some errors in the lyrics.. of cousre it should be: "I lost your honesty You lost the life in you"

..another great song from side one of the album. I agree with hidispenser that the song reflects the impact of changing.

I think anybody who has been in a particular intense relationship, where both sides are struggling to be the one in control rather than just going with the flow, can relate to that line - myself included!

i think it is about when you have a friend who starts copying your tastes or whatever just so you d get along.losing individuality just to fit in.

It’s obviously about relationships and the difficulty of maintaining them over time as people change. Personally I think it’s about Roland and Curt and how their relationship was difficult to maintain given how they lived in each other’s pockets. ‘I walk and talk in two’
