the song meaning is pretty self explanatory. it is about someone who feels they cannot be with another person but still loves them and is confident that they are the only person for that someone. BUT does anyone know the real actual inspiration of this song? I would love to know the real story behind it...
Sheeba, why do you think its "about someone who feels they cannot be with another person", I always thought it was about someone who loved someone but maybe was travelling and thinking about them and looking at their picture at night,well that's what I came up with anyway, I should get more sleep.
i suppse it could be both madman. it could also be about two people who cannot be together because of distance and he is reasssuring the woman that no one could take the place of the other.
At a recent concert (Jazz Alley, Seattle, WA, November 16, 2007) I was at, Taj Mahal said that the original inspiration was actually a look he noticed in his then baby daughter's eyes while looking at her in bed, but that it grew into a "essential first dance wedding" kind of song.
