When I'm Sixty-Four Lyrics

When I get older losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me a Valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine

If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

You'll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride
Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more

Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck and Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

Cover art for When I'm Sixty-Four lyrics by Beatles, The

This song WAS written by Paul when he was only 15.

And it was inspired by his father, not by the Beatles or record companies. Paul's dad was a Jazz band leader in the 20s, so Paul was used to hearing jazz like melodies all the time...which is where he draws the inspiration for this song's melodies.

And in the summer the song was written, his dad had just turned 64, and Paul just plugged the words in with the melody...

@Capt Aviator Jim McCartney turned 64 on July 7th, 1966. Paul had just turned 24. Sorry Captain, but you story does not add up.

I don't know the true origin of it, but I think this is just a happy, sweet love / proposal song. Happy guy in love with his girl, and wants to take care of her. Old fashined I guess, but simple and pure nentheless.

This was written by Paul when he was jut a teen. John didn't want this song on the album because this was kind of honoring Paul's father because he was 64 when it came out. John didn't want that because Paul's dad was the one who thought John was trouble and tried to steer Paul away from John. It is an ok song. I really don't like clarinets.
