Out Of Touch Lyrics

Trapped in a lost world of brutality
So weak are the ones that
Must rely on shock
To push this so called force
That inspires their call

To be extreme
So it seems
Is a mental crutch
To cover up
For those that are
Completely out of touch

Say!
What you want
I know the truth
When it comes to your kind

[Lead: Chuck]

In time we'll see
Who lasts
In time you will
Disappear

Who are you to question my sincerity?
For now you are high on yourself
Drowning in your dreams of misguided hope

To be extreme
So it seems
Is a mental crutch
To cover up
For those that are
Completely out of touch

I think it's commenting on how some people have to be all scary, extreme, controversial and so forth, just to cover up for their inadequacies, though I don't know who he was talking about, could have been those with an extreme political opinion, a band's marketing tactics or just outlook on life.

On the other side though, it has a second meaning for me too. It seems a lot of 'normal' people think that people are only into 'extreme' music to compensate for some inadequacy.

I think its about journalism and journalists. They write about others, that most of the time can't respond, and that puts them "out of touch". Plus, we all know they tend to exaggerate ("to rely on shock"). I know Chuck has his problems with the press - but he prevailed - "Who are you to question my sincerity?"

I think it's about extreme political opinions, because of the lines 'Trapped in a lost world of brutality' and 'To push this so called force'.

But I'm not a 100% sure about this.

hes talking about the image of brutality and toughness many of the death metal guys try putting up.

To be extreme So it seems Is a mental crutch To cover up For those that are Completely out of touch

their goal is to be extreme, and in doing so theyve gone out of touch because theyre more worried about image than the music. so this song is really about posers.

I feel like he's talking about the early 90s Norwegian BM scene.
