Your existence is
A script life for you
Is a perfomance
Play out the leading role

Directing and
Premeditating every move
That creates the act
Of manipulation

Mastering the art
Of deception
That increases your
Sick addiction

It's an overactive imagination
That enslaves your empty shell

[Lead: Chuck]

Existing
In dimensions
Of addictive
Obsession

[Lead: Andy]

Your script will run
Short of ideas
The story will soon
End itself
People to trust
Come short in number
Like a plague your lies
Spread fast across the world

Mastering the art
Of deception
That increases your
Sick addiction

It's an overactive imagination
That enslaves your empty shell

I feel that this song is about a person who is obsessed with being in complete control of their own life; so much so that they have to plan out and imagine every move before it's even made. Why it's titled "Overactive Imagination" in this context is a bit hard to explain, but I think I already got it :p

Schuldiner means that the person with the overactive imagination gets lost in their own thoughts and imagines their own perfect little world, without even considering the reality around them. HEHEH take THAT 1950's society!

I can't believe that only one person commented before me .I mean Come on this is Death the Father Of Death metal and defienetly on of the best metal bands of all time.

enough about that, i kinda have the same idea as havana4sale about this song.it is like a person who wants to do everything in the way that he wants and imagined.

i am the same though!!!I imagine what i want to do all the time but don't do them exactly in the way i wanted or even don't do them at all!

In my opinion chuck writes about a person that lies throughout his life to feel good and to manipulate the people around him . it is like an addiction to him. He is

Directing and Premeditating every move That creates the act Of manipulation

But in fact this person is causing his own end. Nobody will believe him anymore and in the end he will be alone:

The story will soon End itself People to trust Come short in number

In this context the title makes sense to me. The guy has just to much phantasy...

i think this song is about religion and similar schools of thought that makes people fanatic and closed minded. so their life becomes as closed and limited as a script and they only have the option to play their role.

Your script will run Short of ideas The story will soon End itself

since these schools of thought don't have the option of evolving and becoming better over time, they are forced to become obsolete over time and they will end their selves. for example what meaning would christianity or islam have when people evolve into several different species or if earth's life forms move to different planets.

The song could be about politicians and other public figures who are narcissists and crave power and control, so lies "spread fast across the world" and they are of course masters in the "art of deception" to gain power and use propaganda.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
