Catherine's Wheel Lyrics
Like a shot from the dark
In the silence of night
Down the black boulevard
Come the blinding headlights
If it isn't the hit
It's the thrill of the chase
You've got to admit
It's a hell of a place
But when she turns
How she sparkles and burns
And I am bound by her spell
I'm tied to her carousel
Like shooting stars
That scratch away at the dark
I know that my fate is sealed
On catherine's wheel
So look down the tracks
See how far you've come
There's no turning back
The deal is done
Take hold of the rail
It's a heart-stopping ride
The sparks fall like hail
As she draws me inside
And when she turns
How she sparkles and burns
And I am bound by her spell
I'm tied to her carousel
Like shooting stars
That scratch away at the dark
I know that my fate is sealed
On catherine's wheel
The record goes round
The needle goes down
On a forgotten sound
And when she turns
How she sparkles and burns
And I am bound by her spell
I'm tied to her carousel
Like shooting stars
That scratch away at the dark
I know that my fate is sealed
On catherine's wheel
In the silence of night
Down the black boulevard
Come the blinding headlights
If it isn't the hit
It's the thrill of the chase
You've got to admit
It's a hell of a place
How she sparkles and burns
And I am bound by her spell
I'm tied to her carousel
Like shooting stars
That scratch away at the dark
I know that my fate is sealed
On catherine's wheel
See how far you've come
There's no turning back
The deal is done
Take hold of the rail
It's a heart-stopping ride
The sparks fall like hail
As she draws me inside
How she sparkles and burns
And I am bound by her spell
I'm tied to her carousel
Like shooting stars
That scratch away at the dark
I know that my fate is sealed
On catherine's wheel
The needle goes down
On a forgotten sound
How she sparkles and burns
And I am bound by her spell
I'm tied to her carousel
Like shooting stars
That scratch away at the dark
I know that my fate is sealed
On catherine's wheel

This song may be viewed in different ways... if you view it on a "lovers" level, I think it's the process of being drawn into love itself... if you look at it as "death", then it's about the process of a peaceful death. Catherine's Wheel are two things... the fireworks or the torture instrument.
My opinion, this song is about someone who loves someone. However, he has been sealed (in the sense of being married) or has a marriage.
There is the double meaning of Catherine's Wheel both being a firework and a torturing instrument. Catherine's wheel seems also to refer to the round shape of a vinyl record here. With that in mind I understand this as an ode to the nerve wrecking thrill of being a musician, hoping for success very badly. The success here is impersonated by "her", whom the lyrical person is longing for. And he knows that he stands at the crossroad of either going to the sparkling and shining world of success or experiencing the torturing experience of fading to darkness and becoming a forgotten sound.
