Brand New Love Lyrics
Restless eyes close, maybe it'll go away
Please rest tomorrow, bring a satisfied day
The restless urge of love, that's worth the burning for
Surely it's that one consuming love to give you more
Any thought could be the beginning
Of the brand new tangled web you're spinning
Anyone could be your brand new love
Any tie that holds can be broken
Tear your bitter world to the open
Anyone could be your brand new love
You won't be the first
your twisted change is normal gossip dirt
Whispered to the nodding head
Thrilled you fell apart instead of them
But they will
Any hope for love can be killed
If you need a different face
It's definite time to destroy this place
Any thought could be the beginning
Of the brand new tangled web you're spinning
Anyone could be your brand new love
Follow what you feel
You alone decide what's real
And anyone can be your brand new love
Please rest tomorrow, bring a satisfied day
The restless urge of love, that's worth the burning for
Surely it's that one consuming love to give you more
Of the brand new tangled web you're spinning
Anyone could be your brand new love
Any tie that holds can be broken
Tear your bitter world to the open
Anyone could be your brand new love
your twisted change is normal gossip dirt
Whispered to the nodding head
Thrilled you fell apart instead of them
But they will
Any hope for love can be killed
If you need a different face
It's definite time to destroy this place
Of the brand new tangled web you're spinning
Anyone could be your brand new love
Follow what you feel
You alone decide what's real
And anyone can be your brand new love

This song is gorgeous. I've never thought of it as uplifting or positive. It sounds to me like he's singing it to an ex he feels pity or disdain for. Someone who's searching for love to replace one they had.
Regardless, try Death Cab For Cutie's cover of it on the John Byrd EP. It's not as good as the original, but they do a great job with it.
Either a hopeful or a sadly reflective song about a lost love. Great stuff for any lovestruck teen. THe acoustic version on Weed Forstin has that fragile atmosphere that makes it a pretty and sad song.
Could be that Lou is talking to a his newly ditch girlfiend, trying to sooth her.
I've always felt that this song was very hopeful, but at the same time I could understand if somebody felt the opposite way. Lou kind of equates love with suffering here, so I guess any optimism is dampened by that.
I like to think this song has a hopeful message, though the more i listen to it, the more sad I think it is...
I don't think sad is the right word to describe it. "Bitter" would be better.
I believe it's "GOSSIP dirt..."
i swear i feel like i hear crickets in the background.. which sort of ads to the intimacy of the song, a guy, a guitar, and a 4-track recorder in a living room.
Yeah I think it's "gossip dirt," not "gossan dirt," and "any tie that holds," not "any tithe."
I relate it to a broken relationship that meant a lot to the writer. She moved on to somebody else right away and he is left to deal with and except it. He knows that somebody else is going to come along but is jaded and almost dreading his next relationship because of what he has experianced in the prior relationship. But is anxious to start it to get her out of his head.
