Four years? Some form of college? He's girlfriend went to college and he misses her, sounds quite simple, but I might just be right on this one.
this song is so beautiful, i don't know what he means by four years, high school? maybe college? but it's still a very sweet song. Silverstein is an awesome band and more people should listen to them, cuz they rock my socks!

i have to agree with autums monolouge, it doesnt have to be a specific four years like hs or college it can be any general four years of his life. anyways i feel anyone who ever really liked someone and waited it out for them can relate to this song its so touching to me especially when he says "ive waited all this time to say how much i care"

I've split up with a girl that i've known and been with for a long while, unfortunately uni cocked all that up and we said that 'if it's meant to be we'll end up back together' Cut a long story short i reckon it's about the guy/girl waiting until university is over so they can finally be back with the person he/she truly loves

The rest of the song is pretty self explanatory if you take my perspective, would love to see different views on this song =) Nevertheless pretty depressing but i love it.
i think that what it means is that there was something that consumed four years of his life, maybe like military or something, and she didn't want to wait for him, so she moved on.
