it took a few years but I finally fully understand what those lines mean. she's left behind in one way but right back where they were years ago in another way. time moves forward but in your mind, sometimes you're back where you started from. memories fade but don't disappear.
I always think of my ex when I play this song. I was in love with him. the only thing that really got me through the break up was the idea that maybe in ten years maybe then I'll have him. thanks martha. i appreciate it.

Built up this fantasy future in her mind, which can only lead to heartbreak and disappointment, yet she's not bitter, she still feels love for him as he moves on his way. A really good description of how it feels to be the person who has fallen in love when the other one hasn't.
