Whispers And Moans Lyrics
Dull dull grey, the colour of our times
Cool cool space that I still hope to find
Far beyond the veil
The sound of whispers and moans
Slow time bomb, the clamour of the street
I hear this town it never goes to sleep
And I will catch the taxi driver
Weeping like a wounded beast
Then I wake up in your room
Share one piece of your life
When tomorrow comes
We may not be here at all
Without your whispers and moans
Here you come to carry me home
Love that sound, time erase
Tension wheels, cool heels
Won't ya come on open the bid before too long
I wake up in your room
Share one piece of your life
I'd give anything to be a fly upon the wall
And hear your whispers and moans
I like to hear your whispers and moans
Here you come to carry me home
We are the mirrors of each other
In a lifetime of suspicion
Cleansed in a moment, a flash of recognition
You gave your life for it
Worth its weight in gold and growing empires
Art collectors and Alans sound investments
Will one day be forgotten, one day be forgotten
YEAH!
Cool cool space that I still hope to find
Far beyond the veil
The sound of whispers and moans
Slow time bomb, the clamour of the street
I hear this town it never goes to sleep
And I will catch the taxi driver
Weeping like a wounded beast
Then I wake up in your room
Share one piece of your life
When tomorrow comes
We may not be here at all
Without your whispers and moans
Here you come to carry me home
Love that sound, time erase
Tension wheels, cool heels
Won't ya come on open the bid before too long
I wake up in your room
Share one piece of your life
I'd give anything to be a fly upon the wall
And hear your whispers and moans
I like to hear your whispers and moans
Here you come to carry me home
We are the mirrors of each other
In a lifetime of suspicion
Cleansed in a moment, a flash of recognition
You gave your life for it
Worth its weight in gold and growing empires

Will one day be forgotten, one day be forgotten

I originally thought this was a sexual song, but as I continued to listen to it, I feel that it is a spiritual song about GOD!. Yes GOD! "Far beyond the veil, the sound of whispers and moans"
"When tomorrow comes we may not be here at all, without YOUR whispers and moans" "Cleansed in a moment of recognition, you gave your life for it, worth it's weight in gold." My opinion, sorry if you don't agree, I am not some religious freak, but the "slow time bomb" is "the clamor of the street", and the Taxi Driver is someone of this world that will perish. It's been 4 years since anyone commented on this and I think those opinions are shallow. Peace!
This song is my favourite crowded house song. It has got it all...... "I`d give anything to be a fly upon the wall" "will one day be forgotten....."

the songs on woodface are fun and relaxed like the rest of the finn's stuff. however, the lyrics alone are so deep and thought out.
This is probably my favourite song on the album. As ever with Neil Finn's lyrics, the meaning is well-obscured, but I think it has something to do with a long-term relationship, and still being physically attracted to each other after so many years. It must be a pretty special thing to have. I especially love the imagery in the taxi driver line.
I was under the impression, possibly from things Neil has said a concerts and on live recodings, that it is inspired by hearing people having sex in the next door hotel room. Perhaps reminding him of partner when away from home?? and i agree about the taxi driver line - love it.
I agree with S.Davis, that this is obviously (if you're paying attention)a song about God. "Here you come to carry me home" It took awhile for me to get it as well, and I confused the whispers and moans as something that they write so well about in so many other songs. It was a relief to discover that they are capable of speaking on a higher level and therefore have even more respect from me as a music lover. Good call Scott, you are right on.
