Smoking Umbrellas Lyrics
WOKE IN MY WARM BED
JUST IN TIME FOR ALL THE BRILLIANT RED LIGHTS
THEY WERE STREAMING THROUGH MY HALF SHUTTERED WINDOWS
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN TIME WITH MY STUTTERED BRAIN WAVES
THE DOOR KNOB WAS GLOWING
ALL MY PHOTOGRAPHS WERE RIPPLED AND MELTING
THROUGH THE WALLS I COULD HEAR PANICED VOICES
THEY SEEMED TO SAY, 'GO BACK TO BED THERE'S NO CHOICES
AND NOWHERE NOT BURNED OUT
THE FIREMAN CALLS OUT
WE'VE GOT ANOTHER
SMOKING UMBRELLA LEFT
IN THE HALLWAY AND
I GAVE NO ANSWER
TO ALL THEIR SHOUTED QUESTIONS, JUST LAY BACK CHOKING
DIDN'T WANT TO STAY BUT MY BED WAS ON FIRE
INSTEAD OF SCREAMING I FELL BACK INTO DREAMLAND
BLINKING AND SIGHING
probably my favorite song off of Fantastic Planet. This song is about a guy who woke up and his house was on fire, yet he was in a position where he could not get out, and nobody could get in to help him, so he just lays back and welcomes his death.
Perhaps it's a metaphor for the burning umbrella representing his life as he is unable to protect himself from the world melting around him. So he lays back and accepts that no help is going to do any good as his world becomes his slow descent into oblivion and he just accepts the inevitable...

By digging out failure i have found that 90's is nothing but a treasure ground
this song is about accepting things as they are
^^^Yeah that's all right. AWESOME SONG!!!!!! Everyone should listen to failure!
Oh yeah, and you forgot the part where it goes "I don't want to leave the comfort of my bed I've never believed it would happen this way"
i read somewhere that this song was about a dream one of the band memebers had? great song too!
What a scary dream. I guess this song could be a whole metaphor for being in a position where you can't do something to help a situation and you just keep getting back in the same position and you don't know how the fuck you got there AGAIN, let alone how to get yourself out of the situation.

I think its a song about being an arsonist.
This song could be about a bad drug trip, or the panic of an addict who hasn't fed his addiction.
The imagery this song brings is so raw.
