I've got a word or two
To say about the things that you do
You're telling all those lies
About the good things that we can have
If we close our eyes

Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you

I left you far behind
The ruins of the life that you had in mind
And though you still can't see
I know your mind's made up
You're gonna cause more misery

Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you

Although your mind's opaque
Try thinking more if just for your own sake
The future still looks good
And you've got time to rectify
All the things that you should

Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you

Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you
Think for yourself
'Cause I won't be there with you

It's probably about the government...but I have always thought it may possibly be about religion. Or rather, a criticism of religion.

This makes me think of Aleister Crowley, who was on the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club He was a satanist, whose philosophy was "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."

I always thought it could relate to a relationship, mainly because I had a personal experience that this song could relate to. I don't think it was meant that way though.

I always related it to a relationship as well!...but yeah I agree it probably wasn't meant that way.

This song makes me think of a classmate of mine. She relies a lot on other people -- especially me -- to do well and refuses to actually learn, work, and think for herself. She's changing schools next year, which means she might actually start thinking for herself, since I won't be there with her. Of course, she's probably going to latch onto someone else and cause them misery. Anyways, I love this song. It's one of the best from Rubber Soul.

    My Opinion
THINK FOR YOURSELF EVEN THOUGH NO ONE I KNOW CAN DO SO, APPARENTLY.

    My Interpretation
I think it's about getting so frustrated with someone for whatever reason and then getting to that moment where you finally cut them off and no longer care about what they say or do.
