I believe the song just presents a view on certain people who grow up being trendy and just do whatever is cool at the time without really making their own choices. The person in the song sees this from the outside of it and kind of looks down on it with disdain.
to me it sounds a bit like Jason Newsted's thoughts on leaving Metallica. :-) pissed off at James ?
