don't like your stare
don't like the arm in the air
your style is so brash
and that silly moustache
it was, tabletalk
the evil I see
sends bad vibrations through me
and oh what a square
with your diagonal hair
it was, tabletalk
l said to gilly
'how do you do tabletalk?'
'how do you do tabletalk?'
and this is what she said;
'love love love love...'
the love of his life
too close to become a wife
and the death of this girl
came close to saving the world
from his tabletalk
don't like the arm in the air
your style is so brash
and that silly moustache
sends bad vibrations through me
and oh what a square
with your diagonal hair
'how do you do tabletalk?'
'how do you do tabletalk?'
and this is what she said;
'love love love love...'
too close to become a wife
and the death of this girl
came close to saving the world

Cant believe there are no comments from this song! Off the best Adam and the Ants album, 'Dirk Wears White Sox' The song is about Hitler, with his arm in the air, brash style, and diagonal hairstyle. It comments on the story of his affair with his neice, Geli Raubal (I said to Geli, how do you do, tabletalk. Gilly is not the correct lyric in the above passage, its Geli) The affair was insestuous, and so, could never be made public. (love of his life, too close to become a wife) She shot herself because of this (the death of this girl, came close to saving the world) Alltogether, a great song, and from a much deeper album then their later stuff..very punky and well worth a listen
Have to agree Karlos would expect a little more interest in such a great track. Its amazing how many Ant fans still dont realise what this track is about, even the title was the title of Uncle Adolfs 1930's radio programme. Although i think Mr Ant himself tries to play down a lot of the subjects of his tracks from this era that contained delicate controversial matter. Dirk wears white sox the track was again Giving a nod to Nazism and night porter. I couldnt believe when i purchased the rereleased Dirk wears white sox album in the early 1980's and the lyrics on the inner sleave had been changed on certain tracks. Example "A wall full of Handclaps" in the Idea! Oh please Adam! lol
First 2 comments both spot on. Interesting Adam put this on Dirk rather than Deutscher Girls, the original song Dirk or Nietzsche Baby as this is clearly not a send up "Producers" style of nazi chic. Like Siouxsie did with Metal Postcard on the Scream. It's almost like the pair of them attempted to make amends for previous songs etc
