On a string
On a string
On a string I was held
The way I move, can you tell?
My actions are orchestrated from above
And so I swing and I'll sway
Wave my hand, kick my leg
And it's always right with the music
(Until all that swaying starts to make you sick)
For a song, I was bought
Now I lie when I talk
With a careful eye on the cue cards
Onto a stage, I was pushed
With my sorrow well rehearsed
So give me all your pity and your money now
All of it
(We used to think that sound was something pure)
But if I could act like this was my real life
And not some cage where I've been placed
Well then I could tell you the truth like I used to
And not be afraid of sounding fake
Now all everyone's listening for are the mistakes
(I'm sorry!)
No, it's ok, it's ok
One, two, three
One, two, three
In a house by myself
I hear the ice start to melt
And I watched the rooftops weep for the sunlight
And I know what must change
Fuck my face, fuck my name
They are brief and false advertisements
For a soul, I don't have
Something true I have lacked
And spent my whole life trying to make up for
But I found, in a song
And in the people I love
They will lift me up out of darkness
And now my door, it stands open
I'm inviting everyone in
We're gonna laugh, we're gonna drink
Until the morning comes
That's what we're gonna do!
Come on!
Come on!

yes! the best part is right after he yells out "one, two, three one two three!" and the orchestra starts up. yes it's swell.
it doesnt mean literally fuck his face its used in the sense like you would say "fuck it" or "fuck you" YOU "get the facts straight"!
I read this and instantly thought of Pinocchio. And my God, I love the "mistake". I mean, it's obviously staged (what were the chances that it would happen just after he said 'mistake'?) but how many artists would be gutsy enough to put that into a song? I think the applause and cheering at the end is supposed to be sardonic, like he's selling the emotion and they're buying it.
There just today I have fixed this song up taking out all the wrong parts and now it looks pretty good. There might be one wrong part but im not sure. I really like this song Im sure you will like it to
At the end of the song it's like if he rejects himself from himself...
Great song
I LOVE THE LYRICs "Fuck my face, fuck my name "...rock on Conor. The songs break is humerous too.
Man, he is the best. This song is great, other musicians should listen to this and think about how fake they are. He is a genius, there is no other way I can put it.
I always thought the lyrics were "(Til the swaying starts to make you sick)" instead of sad. At least that's what they sound like to me when I listen.
i agree with colors but i can't deicide between one two three one two three and were gonna laugh were gonna drink until the morning comes That's what were gonna do COME ON COME ON! it brings a smile to my face wverytime i hear that
I think a lot of this album is Coner trying to break out of what everyone thinks he is; he has songs with the deseraparidos about disliking his popluarity as an emo Dylan, and i think this is an extension of that, where he tries to admit his previous works aren't really him. Then the next song is the saddest on the recond... go figure.
