Chains Lyrics
Your arms are warm but they make me feel
As if they're made of cold, cold steel
A simple kiss like a turnin' key
A little click and the lock's on me
Can't move my arms, can't lift my hands
I won't admit to where I am
But I know baby, I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I pretend I can always leave
Free to go whenever I please
But then the sound of my desperate calls
Echo off these dungeon walls
I've crossed the line from mad to sane
A thousand times and back again
I love you baby, I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I'm in chains
Should have known passing through the gate
That once inside I could not escape
I never thought this could happen to me
Never thought this is where I'd be
But baby, baby, baby, look at me
Baby, baby, look at me, I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I never thought this is where I'd be
Never thought this could happen to me
As if they're made of cold, cold steel
A simple kiss like a turnin' key
A little click and the lock's on me
Can't move my arms, can't lift my hands
I won't admit to where I am
But I know baby, I'm in chains
I'm in chains
Free to go whenever I please
But then the sound of my desperate calls
Echo off these dungeon walls
I've crossed the line from mad to sane
A thousand times and back again
I love you baby, I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I'm in chains
That once inside I could not escape
I never thought this could happen to me
Never thought this is where I'd be
But baby, baby, baby, look at me
Baby, baby, look at me, I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I never thought this is where I'd be
Never thought this could happen to me

I think that Tina Arena has a decent voice and everything and I remember that when this song was popular I loved to listen to it all the time, but to be honest with you it's not that great of a song. Melodically it's simple and not very vocally demanding... but hey it's an alright song.
Gor.
i have to sing this for my year 11 assessment. ahh!
ars, I totally relate to your comment. When I was 11 or whenever this song was a hit it was one of my favorite songs, then I downloaded it when I was in my 20s and realized it wasn't really that good.
What is good about this song is her singing and the intricate arrangement. The buildup is awesome. And upon considering this is a standard pop song exploring domestic abuse, and the pained vocals and haunting arrangement perectly accompany that them, I found a whole new reason to like this song 10 years later.
I never liked the 90s music. This one was a decent one! :)
This is a very powerful song, actually. There are 2 stories which ive heard that it relates to. It does relate to domestic violence. Tina Arena co-wrote it and admitted it was a life experience of hers.
If any of you have any knowledge of D/s dynamics , you would realize that these lyrics could easily symbolize the mental and emotional bond between a submissive and her Dominant, which has nothing to do with abuse. Maybe that isn't the context in which she wrote it...but it's a different interpretation. Not everything is black and white.
