Holding my head for the last of race
Pushing my body to get that embrace
It won't last -- hold on fast
It won't last -- hold on fast
Breathing in time, so hard to trace
Crushing your skull with my warming embrace
It won't last -- hold on fast
It won't last -- hold on fast
I fell down the stairs
I wished I were dead
You ran for the light
He handed me your head
It won't last --
It won't last -- hold on fast
It won't last -- hold on fast
Pushing my body to get that embrace
It won't last -- hold on fast
It won't last -- hold on fast
Crushing your skull with my warming embrace
It won't last -- hold on fast
It won't last -- hold on fast
I wished I were dead
You ran for the light
He handed me your head
It won't last --
It won't last -- hold on fast
It won't last -- hold on fast

oh my, how can there be no comments on this song. for me this song is my current state of mind, and thats not a good thing.
Why this song doesn't have hundreds of comments on it is beyond me. Things We Lost in the Fire is amazing and this song is the highlight of the album.
As for what this song is about, I know Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk were having a baby around the time this album was made. I always took the song to be about having to deal with general depression of life and having this child that truly makes up happy and that s/he is going to be growing up and leaving so fast that you want to hold on to you child forever.
