This song is about the abuse by major corporations of the environment and all life. Especially companies like Exxon, "...budgets that burst with oil crude...no compassion common criminals seek asylum concrete pillow exxon dreams..." I think this quote explains the meaning of Ogre's lyrics.
Note: If you haven't noticed removing the last x from Hexonxonx will form a title that sounds like hex on exxon
Hex On Exxon is right. It's about the Valdez disaster in which the Exxon tanker Valdez shyted it and dumped WORLDS of crude oil into the seas off the coast of Alaska. I still remember pictures of animals black as pitch standing there as though they didn't know what had hit them.
SP have always been fiercely environmentalist.
Although you two are correct about the "hex on exxon" part... there are other topics he talks about in this song
some particulars are monks setting themselves on fire in protest (a picture of this is on one of the rage against the machine covers!) "melted prophets"
Another topic is the book burnings that took place in germany, and other parts of the world..another form of protest.
Yes, SP has indeed been an active enviromentalist group.. but theyve also been quite political (though, i suppose the two do coincide with eachother)
I've never thought of them as environmentalists as much as anti-corporate and anti-state, and there is a differnce in ideology. Fucking wallmart caters to environmentalists while still destroying communities around the globe in the interest of the GDP.
cOinterprO, You never thought of Skinny Puppy as environmentalists??? Have you heard Testure or Natures Revenge? How about the name of the band? Cevin and Ogre in particular have been fierce animal rights activists for decades now. I wish I understood your derogatory comment referring to Wallmart. They fight environmental organizations tooth and nail AND destroy communities by undermining local businesses among other things. Walmart and Earth First are not cooperative, never will be.
Melted prophets could also refer to glaciers as melting glaciers where among the first signs of global warming.
Wow, I stumbled on this years later, but all of you seem to have an amazing insight into the mind of someone on recreational heroin, and where the fuck is wallmart? At least two of you all have located it...is it in Llanboble, Wales???maybe they have a wallmart there, eh???
@forest1148 Hi everyone, this is forest1148, realizing how stupid I was just 5 short years ago. Did I really think anyone would be impressed by my inane ad hominem remarks masquerading as some kind of pious insight? What does drug use really have to do with the quality of one's intellect? The Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman was considered one of the greatest geniuses of our time, and he discovered LSD and took it over 15 times. Hell, Francis Crick first perceived of the double-helix structure while on LSD.

And what was I so poorly defending? Corporatism? Unfettered capitalism? The Walton family dynasty? Did I think they would promote me from door greeter to cashier?
