Home Again Lyrics

Where is she going - ooh, she looks like she's lost
Won't someone help her - somebody give her a hand
she's got such sweet eyes - look like they've seen too much
Knew someone like here - nobody helped, but she's
Home again...Home again...Home again

Where are you going - to see a crazy old man
What will he tell you - he'll tell me where I'm going
What will you do then - I might just quit my job
What will you do then - I'm gonna find my way
Home again...Home again...Home again

(Chorus)
(Where're we going, where're we going, Home again,
We're home again, we're home)

Where is he going - why does he walk that way
Sticking his chest out - what is he trying to say
He's got charisma - but when he's all alone
He curls up in a ball - and wishes that he was
Home Again...Home Again...Home Again

Where are we going - why do we feel so small
Alone and helpless - in this big crazy world
Looking for something - that's so hard to describe
But just like children - going along for the
Ride again...Ride again...Ride again

(Chorus)

Well, ain't that something - guess I lost my head
Must have took a wrong turn - when I got out'a bed
ended up on the wrong street - wrong side of town
People here are the wrong type - they've got me down

I'm eating the wrong food - drinkin' the wrong wine
Can't hardly see straight - can't walk the line
Shakin' all the wrong hands - makin' the wrong talk
Steppin' on the wrong feet - every time I walk

(Chorus)

It seems like this song goes a little along with the song "Mary," in a way. Sort of like where is Mary going? To the mountain. Why? What is she learning?

To me it sounds like it's about how we all go about our lives. Everyone has their different way, and when we see each other doing our different things, we're kind of thinking, "What the hell? Why's so-and-so doing that? What's the point?"

We all find our own little niche in the world and stick with it, to comfort ourselves, etc. and it's kind of odd.

You can't go home again--because once you leave, it's not home anymore. This song shows what happens when people lose their way and realize they can never go back to the way things were--"She" and "He" are trapped in their current lives with no chance of escape. "She" goes to see "a crazy old man" for guidance, advice that ultimately points out how aimless she is. "He" pines philosophically about his predicament (most likely over a large amount of alchohol, right?) The final little burst of song (not quite a verse, not quite a chorus) is a look inside one of their heads, seeing how EVERYTHING they're doing is wrong, and only digging them deeper.

Whew.

To me I interpret this song to be about the Wizard of Oz. Oingo had written songs about movies/books in the past (No Spill Blood based on Island of Dr Moreau - H.G Wells. And Wake Up (It's 1984) being about 1984 - George Orwell) so it wouldn't be unusual to have a song based off The Wizard of Oz.

The reason why the thought of this song being about Oz is because the final chapter The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is called Home Again. Then that got me thinking about the lyrics of this song. "Where is she going - Looks like she's lost." She being Dorothy when she first lands in Oz, realising she isn't in Kansas anymore. "Where are you going? To see a crazy old man. What will he tell you? He'll tell me where i'm going." The 'crazy old man' being the wizard and Dorothy thinking that he'll tell her how to get home. There's other lyrics I could relate to the Wizard of Oz, but that's just how this song appears to me.
