Get The Message Lyrics

I've always thought of you as my brick wall
Built like an angel, six feet tall
Six feet tall
And when you go away, I start to weep
You're too expensive girl to keep
Isn't it sweet?
I don't know where to begin, living in sin
How can we talk? Look where you've been
I've counted the nights of living in sin
How can we talk? Look where we've been
Take my independent point of view
I've loosened my wallet, thanks to you
Don't do me any favors
Hark, the herald angels sting
Please repair my broken wing
Why won't you look at me? I live and breathe
(We can make it all the time, to live or die)
Blame it on appearance
It might seem
A shame that we're
Not you or me

I saw an interview w/ Barney on 120 Minutes back when this song came out, and Dave Kendall asked him about this song. It went like this:

DK: 'Get the Message' sounds like one of your more intensely personal songs, would you care to tell us more about it/

BS: I was saying 'stop spending my money, bitch'.

I love this song, still fuzzy on what the words mean though. This song was used in an episode of CSI, which I thought was cool.

maybe the dude is PO'd

i think this chic who comes and goes won't settle down with him cuz he doesn't have enough money to satisfy her

hence the "don't do me any favors" cuz she keeps coming around and he can't figure why she comes if she doesnt want to stay

pitiful

Yeah, you have hit the nail on the head..i heard an interview with Barnie Sumner at the time it came out and to quote him...

"It's about birds spending all your money".

what a crackingly atmospheric track though, like most of their releases.

it's a pity that only money loss could remind us about "living in sin". i think is more important beautiful sacred sense of this song.

Ummm it's Bernard Sumner People, you know the dude that at that point been singing in New Order which was the top of pop music for like over a decade & after being the top of pop he just rambles on without any real focal point. (this is no way a complaint, New Order is my favourite band of all time, but you do tend to notice a few things.)

I always thought it was about a relationship back when it was played on the airwaves, but after watching the video it could be talking about the injustice of poverty or something.
