Ex-Spectator Lyrics
Looking for cars and mortality
Trying to find some sort of geometry
Avoiding mistakes
Keep an eye on every step I take
Everything is building and it appears
That you're all architects and engineers
That's how it looks
That's how it looks from here
I'm an ex-spectator
Can't you see?
I'm an ex-spectator
Never let my vision get in the way of
Here's some questions that the writer sent:
Can an observer be a participant?
Have I seen too much?
Does it count if it doesn't touch?
If the view is all I can ascertain
Pure understanding is out of range
If I make that call
Why can't I make that change?
I'm an ex-spectator
Can't you see?
I'm an ex-spectator
Never let my vision get in the way of
Me
Trying to find some sort of geometry
Avoiding mistakes
Keep an eye on every step I take
That you're all architects and engineers
That's how it looks
That's how it looks from here
Can't you see?
I'm an ex-spectator
Never let my vision get in the way of
Can an observer be a participant?
Have I seen too much?
Does it count if it doesn't touch?
Pure understanding is out of range
If I make that call
Why can't I make that change?
Can't you see?
I'm an ex-spectator
Never let my vision get in the way of
Me

This seems to be the viewpoint of someone who is set in their ways with regard to beliefs, continuing to hold their opinions despite seeing evidence to the contrary. Hence the last line, "I'm an ex-spectator never let my, never let my vision get in the way of me".
Im quite disappointed with this, i think its not up to the standard of the rest of the album
This is one of my favorites from the argument, what are you talking about?
i agree with plosion. this whole album is just insane. i cant even describe its goodness.
I really haven't looked into what the lyrics might mean...but the guitar riff's and the way it sounds just blows me away.
This song could be about a lot of things, but the guitar, double drums, and screaming chorus are timeless. Probably the most underrated song on the the album.
the general message of the song is that as long as you are a simply "spectator" your ideas, beliefs and convictions will mean nothing. "architects and engineers" are people who design things ("vision"), but they are not the ones who actually put in the physical labor to actually accomplish the those things. the speaker is now an "ex-spectator" or "participant" a person who takes action, working towards the accomplishment of whatever he believes in.
