Blood And Roses Lyrics
It was long ago
Seems like yesterday
Saw you standin' in the rain
Then I heard you say
I want to love, but it comes out wrong
I want to live, but I dont belong
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses
Bought flowers in the springtime
October we were wed
In wintertime the roses died
Her blood ran cold
And then she said
I want to love, but it comes out wrong
I want to live, but I don't belong
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses
It was long ago
Seems like yesterday
Saw you standin' in the rain
Then I heard you say
I need your love, but it comes out wrong
I try to live, but I don't belong
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses (4x)
Seems like yesterday
Saw you standin' in the rain
Then I heard you say
I want to live, but I dont belong
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses
October we were wed
In wintertime the roses died
Her blood ran cold
And then she said
I want to live, but I don't belong
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses
Seems like yesterday
Saw you standin' in the rain
Then I heard you say
I try to live, but I don't belong
I close my eyes and I see
Blood and roses (4x)

First of all, will someone correct the spelling mistakes, and the lyrics are also incorrect. "Then she said" not "Then you said", for example. Secondly, Pat Dinizio has said the song was inspired by a girl he knew (I'm not sure if he dated her) who was depressed and ultimately commited suicide. So the lyrics are not so easily "self explanatory" and if you examine them, there are clues to the underlying depth of emotion and sympathy for the girl, and even horror, which also comes through in the music--like a horror movie score.

Pat Dinizio said: "Blood and Roses" was written in New York City. In the early morning, walking home across Greenwich Village, from my job at a nightclub where I used to do sound and lights. It was raining, and the bass line came to me as part of the tempo of my walk. Lyrically, it was about a girl I was involved with in high school who committed suicide.
LOVE the bass line.
Great lyrics, self explanatory. And I agree with truongt41, the bass line is incredible. I'll even go as far as to say this is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.
this song kicks total ass. it's on the radio right now. woot.
i first heard this song in the movie "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion". This is such a tyte song. I'm surprised this song is played more on the radio. It should be more famous, itz that awesome.
Good song. I moved to New Jersey a couple of years ago...it amazes me that people here still love freakin Bon Jovi, but this band, also from the garden state (btw, I seen a lot more chemical treatment plants, landfills and toxic waste disposal sites than gardens, but that's another story) is so relatively obscure.
I agree (sigh). Not only how the Smithereens, much like Bruce Springsteen, better represents New Jersey's finest music--I too saw all those toxic waste sites, chemical treatments plants, et. al., as a kid when my dad drove our family down to Trenton to tie up loose ends before we all flew to Rota, Spain, where my dad was stationed for a few yrs. while serving out his 20 yrs. in the Navy circa 1974. BTW, I've got a joke for you: This guy and his gal were passionately making out so much the gal cries out, "Oh Baby, kiss me where it smells!" So he takes her to New Jersey...hehehe
Oh no. :)
Oh no. :)
I like the lyrics, sounds like a couple that are the total antithesis of eachother... etc
Excellent song.
