Goodbye Lyrics
Every day’s the same,
I feel them merge
I try to separate,
Resist the urge
But they tell me I’ll be fine
That it will all get better
Just try to write it down
Or put it in a letter
But the words won’t play
And there’s no easy way to say
Goodbye, Goodbye
Keep my head on straight and don’t look down
With all I’ve pushed away I’m losing
ground
But they tell me I’ll be fine
That it will all get better
Just try to write it down
Or put it in a letter
But the words won’t play
And there’s no easy way to say
Goodbye, Goodbye
And from the sidelines
Watch me fall down
And I don’t understand the things I do
But I’ll probably be fine
As long as I keep moving
I’ll try to write it down
So things just keep improving
Still the words won’t play
Cause there’s no easy way to say
Goodbye, Goodbye
I feel them merge
I try to separate,
Resist the urge
But they tell me I’ll be fine
That it will all get better
Just try to write it down
Or put it in a letter
And there’s no easy way to say
Goodbye, Goodbye
With all I’ve pushed away I’m losing
ground
But they tell me I’ll be fine
That it will all get better
Just try to write it down
Or put it in a letter
And there’s no easy way to say
Goodbye, Goodbye
Watch me fall down
But I’ll probably be fine
As long as I keep moving
I’ll try to write it down
So things just keep improving
Cause there’s no easy way to say
Goodbye, Goodbye

And I don’t understand the things I do But I’ll probably be fine As long as I keep moving I’ll try to write it down So things just keep improving i had only ever heard TORN on the radio, and then heard the whole White Lillies...Album, which i've really enjoyed. surprisingly, "Wrong Impression", the first radio song, is one of my least favs...hmm.
I love this song. To me, it's about thinking of leaving the world despite everyone who says putting out your feelings in words will help - cos sometimes, that just can't help.
this song is about someone who is sinking deeper and deeper into themselves. Everyday is becoming one and nothing has any feeling people keep telling this person to find something to keep them grounded but nothing works because it will get worse before it gets better. How do you tell someone that you are losing yourself? How do you put in to words the feeling of losing touch with yourself? You just can't.
My interpretation of this song is that much like Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill or Robert Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull ... the speaker is following her dreams, and this is leading to decisions carrying her away from the familiar territory (people, ideas) of a "past life". There is a bittersweetness to making decisions and moving on...but in order to really enjoy the change, one must cut ties. It is only by letting something that used to occupy us go that we make room for new improvements. This is pointed out with the line "with all I've pushed away...I'm losing ground" (which seems also an allusion to the afterlife, that by selecting certain things and letting them go she is freeing herself from earthly attachments).
I'm surprised that none of the comments reference a feeling of loss. I interpret this song to be about the loss of a loved one to death or simply a failed relationship (not necessarily romantic): "They tell me I'll be fine, that it will all get better." Isn't that what we tell people who have separated from a romantic partner or friend? "It'll be all right, just give it time." And therapists frequently tell those who are grieving to "put it in a letter." Maybe I'm just being morbid...
I agree with rhapsody000, to me it too is about dealing with loss or a failed relationship, and how hard it is in spite of being supported and being told how to deal with all the feelings and emotions...
i agree with rhapsody.i think it's about losing someone that you love and not being able to move on.
