Cactus Lyrics

Sitting here wishing on a cement floor
Just wishing that I had just something you wore

I put it on when I go lonely
Will you take off your dress and send it to me?

I miss your kissin' and I miss your head
And a letter in your writing doesn't mean you're not dead
Run outside in the desert heat
Make your dress all wet and send it to me

I miss your soup and I miss your bread
And a letter in your writing doesn't mean you're not dead
So spill your breakfast and drip your wine
Just wear that dress when you dine

D-A-V-I-D

Sitting here wishing on a cement floor
Just wishing that I had just something you wore

Bloody your hands on a cactus tree
Wipe it on your dress and send it to me

Sitting here wishing on a cement floor
Just wishing that I had just something you wore

David played all the instruments on this song except for the pump bass. He also plays it in a different key i think.

Doesn't the original spell P-I-X-I-E-S?

Cover art for Cactus lyrics by David Bowie

The original spells P-I-X-I-E-S Obviously, Bowie would spell out D-A-V-I-D.

Great song, either way.

Most of his songs on Heathen were about how he felt about himself and the world. HE said in an interview that he is very selfish about what he writes. Not that that's a bad thing. This song in particular, though, was a great Pixies cover. Another cover in the album is I've Been Waiting for you, which was originally done by Neil Young.

i am pretty sure bowie covered the pixies. either way an awesome song.

the pixies definitely did this first. they were around in the late 80s/early 90s, and this album (heathen) came out in 2001.

Regardless, the cover is great. Bowie is also featured on the Pixies dvd as a commentator.

The D-A-V-I-D thing is great live.

I had no idea this was a cover! Makes great sense now...it didn't seem Bowie enough. I thought maybe Iman just had that much of an effect on him.

Will be investigating the original...
