Safari Lyrics
He didn't cry on a safari
In over his knees
He couldn't leave a finer life
Always hugging the ground
And crying out for me
He didn't cry on a safari
In over his knees
He couldn't leave the flock, he couldn't leave
always hugging the man
and crying out for me
In over his knees
He couldn't leave a finer life
Always hugging the ground
And crying out for me
In over his knees
He couldn't leave the flock, he couldn't leave
always hugging the man
and crying out for me

Ok. When I was younger dumber and only 20 or so I had no idea what this meant. Now that I have about 20 years more life experience I think I can speculate. Obviously only Kim really knows what it's about. I suspect this song is about Mr. John Murphy. And I don't think it;s any coincidence the second song on this side of the EP immediately following is the Who's So Sad About Us. I suspect its about how her marriage fell apart because he couldn't handle the music life. And preferred the less risky "finer life" of working for "the man". "He couldn't leave the flock...." in other words he wouldn't give up security to take a chance on her career. I suspect "the and crying out for me" was that he didn't really like her being gone on tour or off practicing with the pixies. This is all speculation on my part. Kim jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong...
@misterguitar91 She knew that marriage was wrong from jump. She did him a favor.

Only other "lone wolves" understand. Great interpretation MG.

The chorus "Ahh...ah, ah, ahhh" to me was obviously sexual penetration, first pain and then pleasure. I always thought she was referring to herself somehow, but now the "My Interpretation" comment below makes things clearer. She was bitter about being dumped by her ex and is taunting him, in a very rude and crude way, about preferring to be sodomized by "the man" to following her.
Christ if I know what this song is about but it's my favorite from The Breeders.
