stone roses influence most definately. Great song, the sort of lyrics that you want to hear from a band as they're breaking through in a music industry that was and is dominated by shit.
this is one of my all time favourite oasis songs, i love the early, raw sounding tracks.
"the higher that you climb the longer you fall" is such a genius lyric to me. the way i interpret it is that the more you try and be someone you're not, or impress someone and put so much effort into something that's giving nothing back, the worse it'll be for you in the long run. i didn't explain that very well but i've always thought it's a really good lyric.
When played on an acoustic guitar, sounds like a song by Mansun. Can't remember which one. This is a really useful post.

I think this song is talking about someone that's in a higher position than another, and the person in a higher position has more so-to-say "power" and control of others and is "cooler" and accepted with people.
Then, this high powered one gets into something big and 'falls,' making it his time to shine and show how great he really is, which nobody could see because of this gloatatious bastard :)
I think the meaning to this song is this - Your life is gonna go by way to fast, you'll go through a million changes with people you love and choices you make, and when its all done is when you'll finally look back on life. Hence the line "The people will notice that the times are changing".
