Unmarked Helicopters Lyrics
Whose song is that remembered?
At random, surpenting
Throught fatty coils, emerging
some other thought it's thinking
this light
stands above the
houses
on the ground
this illumination
visited upon the whole land
unmarked helicopters
hovering
the lord is coming soon
here comes the super copter
here comes the noise it makes
the demon was an idea
the demon is awake
scratch mark traced across the
surface of your mind
this hour, now upon us
the hour, now arrived
unmarked helicopters
hovering
the lord is coming soon
unmarked helicopters
hovering
they said it was a weather balloon
but i know the truth
i know the whole shebang
i know the names of men they had to hang
i let her out the trunk
heard what she said at them
they've come to drag us through the double M
it goes black black black black and blacker
it goes black black black black and blacker
it goes black black black black and blacker
it goes black black black black and blacker
unmarked helicopters
hovering
the lord is coming soon
unmarked helicopters
hovering
they said it was a weather balloon
it was a weather balloon
it was a weather balloon
it was a weather balloon
it was a weather balloon
it was a weather balloon
At random, surpenting
Throught fatty coils, emerging
some other thought it's thinking

this song kicks ass its has to be about an fbi cover up of the new mexico happnings
it was written for the x-files. chris carter sent the band some episodes because he wanted them for the soundtrack. they loved the show, agreed, and wrote this song.
yeah, this is about what happened in Roswell New Mexico, "they said it was a weather balloon" the "official" report was that it was a weather balloon
This song and "16 Horses" from the other X-Files CD are how I got into Soul Coughing. Both are excellent tunes. I then proceeded to get their three albums in reverse order.
Also, the "balloon" bit refers to the Mantell UFO incident, where an Air National Guard P-51 pilot named Mantell was killed while pursuing an unidentified flying object in Kentucky (you can look it up on Wikipedia). One of the theories is that the Navy had released some skyhook weather balloons, which were secret at the time (1948), and which conformed to the description given of the UFO by different involved parties. But then some conspiracy theorists say that when Mantell's body was found, he had weird holes all over his body, or that other circumstances suggested an alien encounter.
I want to know what the "drag us through the double M" thing is all about. I'm sure it has something to do with being abducted.
Great song! It's the first Soul Coughing song I ever heard, and I was hooked right away.
This song captures the spirit of the X-Files perfectly. Loaded with 300% of your RDA of conspiritorial wackiness.
@NorthWriter: The "drag us through the double M" thing is (I'm pretty sure) a reference to the year 2000 (M=1000 in roman numerals), and all the paranoia and awesome religious and secular weirdness that was associated with the last year of the 20th century and 2nd millenium, Anno Domini.
Doughty recently said he wrote this song for X-Files without ever watching an episode. He then started to watch it after the fact.
