    i think this song was written about someone who was in a relationship but it's either ended or is on it's last leg. the other person, say a girl, has been untrue and has not proven her love, but even so, he can't stop thinking about her. he knows she doesn't deserve it, and he knows that he should move on, but there's some alluring quality about her that he can't seem to get out of his mind. i've been there, and this song sums up that situation perfectly.

    Great fucking song. I love how the instrumentals and vocals are so simple. And it's kind of undescribable. It reminds me of when I have a crush on someone and I'm too afraid to tell them. And how whenever I have a crush it seems as if the world is mocking me. It rains to mirror my emotions but wherever I go, there is a couple or some kind of reminder than I don't have the one I want. You'll give anything not to think about that person. Anything to not feel for that person. But you can't help it. And I love when he says the silence is like thunder. Because... sometimes when there is no sound, no distraction, it just gives way for your thoughts to be loud and overpowering. Like thunder

    THis song is a great one, weve all been there at some level or another, i think its about been in denile about your love for a girl, basicly your so in love with her it hurts that you cant get her, hes lonley "I'm sick of love; I wish I'd never met you I'm sick of love; I'm trying to forget you" hes trying to forget her he wish he wasnt in love it would just make live easier and set him free he heres the clock tick time just runs slow , he cant fight it so eventuall at the end of the song he says Just don't know what to do I'd give anything to Be with you

    I'm pleasantly surprised so many people love this song. I was afraid people would kind of enjoy it, but not love it. Time Out of Mind is most probably my favorite Dylan album, and this song kills me every time.

    the grat thing about this kind of TimeOutOfMind lyrics is that Dylan is speaking in very simple, colloquial, non-genious phrases, and then suddenly he caughts you off-guard and bam! I spoke like a child you destroyed me with a smile ... while I was sleepin' it blows my mind!!!!

    These lyrics hit home HARD... my brain is so wired I spoke like a child you destroyed me with a smile...I love this line! simple yet powerful lyrics. It sucks being totally in love with someone who does not feel the same way about you!
