Up in the sky
It's a bird,
It's a plane
Yea, it's a plane.
I'm not afraid to fly,
I'm not afraid,
Yea, I guess I'm afraid.
Fear is a good thing,
It teaches us humility,
And it can keep us sane.
So I'll fly high if I have to,
If I could, I'd take the train.

Livin' away from home on the road all the time ah,
All the time
I've been up and down and back and forth,
No reason or rhyme, yea you guessed right.
Makes a grown man confront his fears,
Consider options, he'd normally decline.
I'm gonna find my ticket to fly,
I'm gonna fly, I'm gonna fly-high

[Chorus]
Strap me in, tie down,
and roll me a bone
I'm gettin on an airplane,
and I'm flyin home
Strap me in, tie down,
I'm learning to fly
Travel cross the country,
I get too fuckin high
(Too fuckin high)
I don't want to die
(Too fuckin high)
Too fuckin high
(Too fuckin high)
Too fuckin high
(Too fuckin high)
Yeah

Yeah, they fly so high, 20, 30 thousand,
That's pretty high
When they take off,
my chest sinks,
my ears pop,
I pray, I lie
I think about the network news that tortured myself,
And to pass the time,
I hear tell my seat cushion is a floation device,
Pray to god they ain't lyin'

[Chorus]

(Jam)
(Too fuckin high)
I don't want to die
(Too fuckin high)
Too fuckin high
(Too fuckin high)
Too fuckin high
(Too fuckin high)
Too fuckin high high high
Yeah

this is a great song, i have the live version of this song with OAR. they're one of those jam bands u really wanna see live. i think this song is about weed, cuz "Strap me in tie me down And roll me a bone" means rolling a joint and obviously the chorus "too fucking high"

Plane Crash is how the guys summarize how they toured. Rob is a pussy and can't fly so they were forced to tour by R/V and like mobladimoblada said sedation is a good way to make a long trip seem to fly by. This years moe.down ended on Sunday night with a Plane Crash opener and ended the second set of Sunday with plane crash. go get all the sets from Moe.down 5 its so worth it!!

MoeIsSweet...you are dumb. The majority of the song is about a fear to fly. But he mixes it up and throws in metaphors for getting High.

Strap me in tie me down And roll me a bone I'm gettin' on an airplane And I'm flying home Strap me in tie me down I'm learning to fly Drivin' 'cross the country I get too fucking high

"I'm getting on an airplane" symbolizing the take-off, like the first few hits of weed. Then he's flying high, "too fucking high"

I mean "Oh no MOE can't smoke weed! THIS SONG CANT BE ABOUT GETTING HIGH" cuz Bonaroo never has hundreds of thousands of fans smoking weed. EVER.

Learn to read more than just on the surface.

    UH FUCKING BUSH LOVERS

Man, I love moe. AND I love getting high.(Putting the two together is just nirvana). Can't we all just get along?.........Know what really pisses me off? When people spell moe. like Moe MOE Moe. ect. Get it right, its not that hard! Rolling Stone just did a review of their newest cd (The Contch) and spelt it Moe the entire time...such disrespect...

it could be about fucking the gutarists mother for any of you know about. I'm sure alot of you on here write music and agree that just about every song has some special meaning held to the writers knowledge only. But i'm sure the guys of moe. burn one down on occasion. they are musicians and most musicians do. good song regardless of the meaning though.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
