Slipping Down Lyrics

I worked on it for a while
Until I saw
That is was goin' nowhere
I gathered it into a pile
And put it with the rest of the things

That didn't work
That let me down
That drove my heart
Into the ground
That tore me up
That made me cry
With no regrets I ask

Have you no pride to stay straight
You've become everything
That you hate
In our little world
You're slipping down
Grab my hand and
I'll pull you out

I'm trying to live a life
That cuts like a knife
That's dull
I wrapped myself up tight
And stored it with
The rest of the things

That didn't work That let me down
That drove my heart
Into the ground
That tore me up
That made me cry
With no regrets I ask

Have you no pride to stay straight
You've become everything
That you hate
In our little world
You're slipping down
Grab my hand and
I'll pull you out

Have you no love to stay straight
You've become everything you hate
In our little world
You're slipping down
Grab my hand and
I'll pull you out

Keanu once remarked that this was one of his f avorite Dogstar songs, because the riffs have shades of Joy Division. While this song does not overtly remind me of Joy Division, I do like the lyrics and the melody. I especially love the lyric set, "...that didn't work, that let me down..etc".

This song is obviously about two friends (or a man and woman in a relationship) who are trying to stay sober. He is pleading with her to try harder "Have you no pride to stay straight/You've become everythign you hate".

Nicely said, and a good tight musical treatment to the song, Joy Division-esque or not.
