Drinking with the Girls Lyrics
You thought you had it made
Like the songs would write themselves
But your words ran out of ink
And your fingers lost the chords
Now you lay around so bored
And you hit the bar at 2:00
And you waste your time on girls
They know they're getting used
They love the pain that you create
The drunken fights you fabricate
Because they've been hurt too, worse than you
You told them not to get involved
Some bullshit excuse to escape unbruised
But they move on, while you're stuck
Hating your self-deprecation, your self-centered songs
The space you've created
Between your words and your actions
These loveless liasons have left you alone
All you've gained is a loss
You wish and you wish and you wish
You could regain a love you never had to begin with
You wished and you prayed and tried to stay in love
Or at least in your lover's good graces
Just to keep it going
Because when they leave, the drinks get stronger
And much, much more frequent
For the sloppy drunk boys
They hide in their basements
Where the songs write themselves
Yeah, it used to be easy
Before we got lazy and drink with the girls
"No, I know it's not your fault
No, you said not to get involved"
Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you need to believe
In all these self-inflicted tragedies
You scribble them down on that miserable sound
I guess this is the good life
Your self-deprication has made it's translation

Hmm... seems to be some stuff missing from this lyric..... i hear more than what is typed out...
I tried to figure out the mumbled words in the background of the begining...theres a few grey spots and things im not sure of, but it seems right.
have they made it for you this will never ...you darling you just cant fool them (me?) maybe it would go away it never went away it will always be there
i cant make anything out of the last one though. Anyone have any ideas?
i think this song is about conor.
that's kind of obvious that part of it's about conor... hiding in the basement where the songs write themsleves, but i think it's about tim, too. just look to the ugly organ lyrics to get the 'hating yr self deprecation' bit.
haha conor!! nope, it's about tim!! conor sort of refers to the album and especially this song in "nothing gets crossed out" though.
it's about tim like most of the stuff people say is about conor!!
one of the sloppy drunk boys can be conor, but it's not like he's the subject of the song.
Everytime Tim writes anthing about songwriting, people think it's about Connor. It makes me wonder. Like, what? Tim's not also a song writer? Is he not also self-deprecating and such? Or do people just gravitate towards Connor that much? I don't now. I'm a bigger Tim fan, myself.
I "gravitate" more towards Conor, but it seems to me that Tim usually writes very much about himself, even more than Conor does. Actually I'm aware of Conor writing about Tim (like in something vague, he said that himself! ) than the other way around. Conor is not as self-centered for me. But I know people probably would say I'm wrong. Just my impression.
i love this song. tim is amazing. and i'm pretty damn sure its not about conor.
I think the last line to the background at the beginning is "until you can't breathe" and then he just yelps...which may/may not be an actual lyric a la jeremy enigk =)
