Hi Rosetinted, If you take in the first verse of the song it's self explanatory (or this is my intertretation), There was a time I was everything and nothing all in one,
This guy/gal is saying at one time he was/had everything (maybe material things), but to himself he felt he was nothing (feelings/relationship/love)
When you found me I was feeling like a cloud across the sun
When they met because of whatever he was missing was making him or his days dull (cloud across the sun/ cutting the light out)
but he/she makes his days brighter.
I get into this song as there is this special person, when we first met everybody looked up to (and tagged or used) me. I thought I had everything i ever wanted, i thought i could not be happier but when they came along POW! did my days seems so much brighter!! and all along i thought i was happy! lol

I love ELton John, to me, the song is when he starts to question his sexuality.
