in the intro.. they say : HARRISBURG... SELLAFIELD... HIROSHIMA... TSCHERNOBYL...

the original version advocated radioactivity, but then some say they changed their mind in the late 80's and put a "stop" before radioactivity. Maybe this was due to the disaster caused by it.

CHERNOBYL / TSCHERNOBYL is a nuclear plant that explode in the 1986 at Ukraine. It's the worst they say, it's level 7 (i don't know how worst is that anyway)

SELLAFIELD is a nuclear site in England. and the place of the first commercial nuclear power station (now being decommissioned)

HIROSHIMA yeah..we all know..this was how the world war II ended..they say, even now, the nuclear radioactivity still affect birth..

HARRISBURG from wikipedia "Electronic Music pioneers Kraftwerk, when rerecording their 1975 song "Radioactivity" ("Radioaktivität") for the 1991 album "The Mix", changed its lyrics to include Harrisburg as one of four nuclear disasters."

In other versions and live he says "Stop" just before "radioactivity". The only known instance (for me) of Kraftwerk getting political.

yeah, in the version on 'the mix' cd, he says "stop". just saw them live in dc, and the projections also say "stop". it's an anti-radioactivity song.

This song is about radio waves. Just. Radio. Waves. It's not an anti-nuclear song or anything like that. The name is a pun - "Radio Activity". "Tune into the melody - radio activity is in the air for you and me"

4d5e6f : I'd like to agree, but it's more than that. They talk about "radioactivity, discovered by Mme Curie". So you're right, it's a pun, between radioactivity (nuclear activity) and radio activity (radio tunes in the air).

The song is preceded on the album by the track Geiger Counter - which fades into Radioactivity. I think that kind of tips off what they meant the song to be about. It's certainly a song about radioactivity - and not just a song about radio waves. The Album title is Radio-Activity, which is a pun, but this song is simply titled Radioactivity, all one word.

In 1992, Kraftwerk and other bands did a concert to protest the nuclear reactor at Sellafield. So yeah, they are against radioactivity.
