i think this song is about a sensitive breakup, where only one of the partners wanted to break up. the girl in the relationship has never felt whole since the break up and perhaps was the starting point of her feeling inadequete. could also be about a friendship that grows apart, and one of the people never quite adapted to other people and still feels alone.
