Great track. This is a very depressing song and it really shows. Townshend really shows his sadness and reflection early on and he is reverent in his situation; knowing that it happens and must happen. Yet, in the end, he refrains and ends up realizing that it is the bad in life/love that leads to the good by "lookin' forward to doin' it all again". Classic AABC AABC DA Format for any theorists out there.
It's such a plaintive song about reflecting on lost love and the loneliness that one feels after a relationship has fallen apart but their are still un-answerd questions.
The sound of the music depicts an overcast rainy English afternoon in a 1978 West London...Fulham, Hammersmith, shepherds Bush or Acton perhaps.
I love the conclusion to the song as it says that despite the fact that the last relationship ended in tears, I still believe in my self and won't let it stop me from falling in love again.
i don't know what it is about this song. i just kept listening to the whole LP and then one day, it hit like a ton of bricks. i hate to say i have a favorite song because there are SO many out there. but this one is really something that means a lot to me. it just does. it was a surprise to get into it and appreciate the artistry of The Who.
a mature sounding Who, and it almost seems Moon was being phased out, but unintentionally. This song would have also worked on Endless Wire.
