(In My) Wildest Dreams Lyrics

When you had a brief encounter with your fortune and your fame
Well, I stood beside and watched the fans that followed
I saw you from a distance
And I heard them call your name
But you winked at me as if to say, I'm sorry
Yeah, you winked at me as if to say, I'm sorry

In my wildest dreams, in my wildest dreams

Now the more I get to know you, the less that I admire
I fade as the unholy light surrounds you
Well, I'm mystified you got so high
You had so far to fall
What you don't own you beg, you steal, you borrow
What you don't own you beg, you steal, you borrow

In my wildest dreams, in my wildest dreams

I never felt this close to you, I never will again
As you gaze at me from on your ivory tower
You're pretending to be happy
You're pretending to be free
As you watch the minutes slowly turn to hours
As you watch the minutes slowly turn to hours

In my wildest dreams

Short Summary:The song is talking about how people get unnecessary attention that they don't really deserve, but also how our pop culture is not really all that it's advertised to be.

This is going to take forever, but if you want, this is my full interpretation: The song is saying that in pop culture, but also in personal situations, people get what they want, and be popular for short stretches. People's admirers are very visible. As an onlooker, you are distanced from that type of thing, because you're not into that sickening, temporary popularity. When someone is popular, it just seems like their name is EVERYWHERE. The part of the song that says "you winked at me as if to say I'm sorry", is probably sarcastic. It's saying that the people who are unnecessarily famous, are just SORRY for the people who SHOULD get attention, but they don't actually respect those people. The more you know these spoiled people, the less impressive they seem. The under appreciated become even more that way, as the famous are illuminated in "unholy light". It can really just be a coin toss of who gets the glory, and people sometimes start out with an equal chance for fame, but in the end, things are just NOT fair. The people with the fortune cheat their way in at times. In your WILDEST DREAMS you couldn't imagine the completely polished, perfect world some people live in, but you really don't want that for yourself, because that is just a fake life. You feel like you will never be part of this, although you are at your highest point in life. You are looking at the famous people in their shallow world, and know they are really only pretending to be happy, and they don't have freedom in life, and they are just watching the time pass before their eyes. Very true lyrics.
