Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street
From my window I'm staring while my coffee goes cold
Look over there (where?)
There, there's a lady that I used to know
She's married now, or engaged, or something, so I am told

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
'Cause if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here

Tonight's the night when I go to all the parties down my street
I wash my hair and I kid myself I look real smooth
Look over there (where?)
There, here comes Jeanie with her new boyfriend
They say that looks don't count for much
If so, there goes your proof

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
'Cause if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here
Around here

But if looks could kill
There's a man there who's more down as dead
'Cause I've had my fill
Listen you, take your hands from her head
I get so mean around this scene
Hey, hey, hey

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
'Cause if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here
Around here

Something going wrong around here
Something going wrong around here
Something going wrong around here
Something going wrong around

Actually, I think thr song isn't nessisarily about good looking guys getting girls, but certainly about guys that don't deserve them, at least in the singer's eyes. I mean, "Gorillas" doesn't seem to be flattering to the appearace. and the line "They say that looks don't count for much, and so there goes your proof." That seems to mean that proof of this statement just walked by. Of course, it could mean that proof of that statement was shot down. Who knows? Great song though.

why do so many of you think its about a hot brainless guy getting a girl? listen to the lyrics ''But if looks could kill There's a man there who's more down as dead.'' It's pretty that he's singing about an unattractive guy pulling a hot girl and yes it's jealously but it's also hitting the singers pride/confidence hard. The song's kinda ambigious whether the singer is hot or not though it does appear he has self esteem issues ''I kid myself I look real smooth''.Anyway it can work both ways as the singers goodlooking he is bummed that less attractive guys can pull chicks,if he's normal looking or unattractive it still works as he's bummed that a guy who's even uglier than him still can get chicks.

The first line pretty much says it all. "Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street." Sometimes it is just too weird and I don't think I will ever get it. I am not saying I am a great looking guy or anything, but serious. Kicking song, I especially like the parts everybody yells in :0)

This song is great It's obviously about being jealous. See for yourself: all the beautiful girls are hanging out with some good-looking, probably empty-skulled player. You see a girl you've known for a long time (and liked very much for a long time) and then one of those players gets her with so much as snapping his fingers, doing nothing for it. Just because he's good-looking. You think it's unfair, and try to end that as quickly as possible. Therefore you try to keep an eye on everything. You may call it stalking, but if you were like me (or Joe Jackson or many other guys): not handsome and in love, you would get the point of this song immediately.

I totally indentify with this song. Only substitute "gorillas" with "emo boys."

A sensitive, caring caballero is bummed because the woman he has the sparks for is going out with the muscle-bound campus-sports-hero type

Awesome song, and one of those that pretty much explains itself. I like cranking this one up and singing along with it... as I know all too well about this shit!

"They say that looks don't count for much, if so, there goes your proof" could also mean he is pointing out an example that supports that looks don't count for much. The "gorillas" could just be big ugly dudes. This would certainly make the chorus make more sense. "Cause if my eyes don't deceive me there's somethin' goin' wrong around here"- A pretty woman going out with an ugly guy.

Shudder to Think
This song is timeless, and nearly 20 years after its creation, still possesses the mystique it did the first time i heard it ~1994. To me, at first blush, all those years ago, it had some kind of homo-erotic allure. The line "so that the others may do" tells of something which must be done for others to follow suit. It felt like like some kind of roxy-glam-pop invitation to sexual liberation. Upon further introspection I think the song may not have an intrinsic meaning, but simply represents a sort of "holding open the door" for people who otherwise might be affronted by this song/band's unusual style. I know, as a sort of armchair rock-historian, that there have been few bands so daring and so true to the sound that wanted to emerge from within, whether the creator wanted it or not. This band handled it with elegance and grace seldom, if ever, seen.
