Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting) Lyrics
It's getting late have you seen my mates
Ma tell me when the boys get here
It's seven o'clock and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer
My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
And my old lady she don't care
My sister looks cute in her bracers and boots
A handful of grease in her hair
Oh, don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Oh, Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
'Cause Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright alright alright, ooh
Well they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out she's with me
A couple of the sounds that I really like
Are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike
I'm a juvenile product of the working class
Whose best friend floats in the bottom of a glass, oh
Don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
'Cause Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright alright alright, ooh
Oh, don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
'Cause Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright alright alright, ooh
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday,
Saturday night's alright
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday,
Saturday night's alright
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday,
Saturday night's alright, ooh
This song rocks! It's the most ass-kicking thing Elton ever recorded. My only bummer: I always thought the refrain said, "Girl, I'm gonna come on like a diesel train," and I thought that was such a great image, only to find those aren't the real words! I still sing it my way though.
BTW, for those who are non-Brits, "braces" are our "suspenders," not metal bands on her teeth.
@law4 In Britain braces are also those things that hold your trousers up, instead of wearing a belt. Which is what the girl in the song is wearing.

@law4 I always thought he was saying "britches and boots," more of an Americanism

Bracers and boots... she's wearing thigh high boots that leave her garters exposed. She's not wear over the shoulder suspenders like Mork or something.

@law4 She is wearing skin head trouser with braces and heavy boots, think Doc Martens.

This song kicks godly amounts of ass. I listen to it when I need to get pumped up for something. Be it a night out drinking, hanging with friends, or just trying to get with the girl I like ;)
i love this song, it has great energy...lol, it's rare that i rock out to a song with piano in it. :-) this is the first time i've read the lyrics, and i'm a bit put off by the "I may use a little muscle to get what I need" line, lol, but hey...elton can do no wrong.
Bernie said this is the first truly English (his home town) inspired song. (All the rest were inspired by his new found love for the American West)
Elton John rules, I wish he was my mom!
This song kicks ass literally. Not usually does Elton rock out like he does in this number.
wow thanks law4 i really didn't know that about braces. BTW: Elton didn't write these lyrics emobettyrocket, even though that comment was like 4 years ago haha, Bernie Taupin did, so Elton literally did no harm with these lyrics, unless you were to hold him responsible for singing another person's lyrics.
How can you float on the bottom of the glass?
That good time feeling while listening to good ol rock and roll.
I LOVE ELTON!!
