What an AWESOME song!!! Why has no one commented on it??? Darlin' is one of my all time fave songs... Its just so happy and whats more, THE HARMONYS ARE GREAT!!!

I absolutely love this song, it is one of my alltime best beach boys song. What this songs means to me, and this is only my opinion, is that the narrator has found the perfect girl who loves him and he loves her, he has only just found her, so is trying to find a way to ask her out/show her how much he loves her. I love this song as it is so positive and I can really relate to the narrator as I have felt this way very recently as well.

I like the "soul heart" approach on this song and the whole style of the album(Wild Honey 1967 USA),because it's like a new turning for the boys after "Smile" (although the two lp have a lot to share each other) ..and a mouthful of fresh air for the listener.

One of my favorite songs ever. "I was like half a man," Brian gets it, until we find real love,we are not whole. I can apply this song to my wonderful wife of 35 years or , when she passed to my 3 year old god-daughter (slight lyrical mods). Just wish I had Carl's voice to express it. The Spector influence is also present there with the driving bass and horns, and don't forget the harmony, like I say, one of the best. Fun, happy, loving. Pure.

It's not bad, but for me it was never that great because it just doesn't sound that crisp and polished like their great stuff from '61-'66. To each his own, but I don't think this is one of their best songs.

I strongly disagree with you, Swing King. Darlin' is definitely one of the Beach Boys best songs. That "unpolished" sound you speak of makes the song even greater. This is definitely one of my favorite songs ever. Carl's voice was simply AMAZING...I wish I could sing like he did.

Brian wrote this song for his friend, Danny Hutton. Danny was fond of calling everyone "Darling". Originally the song was written for Danny's band called Redwood. Redwood eventually became Three Dog Night.

Love the "pub piano" and the great soulful vocals by Carl Wilson.

This song goes back 50 years for me before internet lyrics etc.Still the heartwrenching melody and lyrics bring me to tears...Brian knew how to feel love...express tenderness and show us how he opened his heart to that lucky girl..oh if my darlin could only hold me so near.
