Old Wild Men Lyrics

Where are my boys?
They are in deepest water
Where are they now?
They are over the hill and far away
But they are broken men who lie low
Waiting for miracles
Old men of rock and roll
Came bearing music
Where are they now?
They are over the hill and far away
But they're still gonna play guitars
On dead strings, and old drums
They'll play and play to pass the time
The old wild men
Old wild men
Old wild men, waiting for miracles
Lord have mercy upon the many
Lord have mercy upon the few
Lord have mercy upon the many
Lord have mercy on me and on you

This is a beautiful song about old rocknroll stars who doesn't realize when their time are long gone. I guess it's about life in general, now more than ever. We never grow old, just play and play, waiting for miracles. One of many golden moments from one of the most important pop bands during the seventies.

My Interpretation

@jawig62 I agree with your view on this beautiful song. However, I was around at the time it was released (as were you?), and read some interviews. 10cc were experienced composers and session musicians when they founded 10cc. Graham Gouldman had, among other thing, written "No milk today" - a giant European hit for Herman´s Hermits. The critics said: "You are too old for rock´n roll" - over the hill. This is their sarcastic response.

@jawig62 Thanks for your reply. Yes, I was around that time, but didn't know the story behind it.
