This song represented the water element in Brian Wilson's master album Smile. It was actually adapted from his song "I Love to Say Da-da" and put onto a later ablum as a filler song. I always thought it sounded like one of those 'save the oceans' songs or an Oceanspray commercial.
The lines "when I'm thirsty and I reach for a glass, cool water is such a gas" were originally written by Mike Love for a Coca-Cola commercial. "Coca-Cola is such a gas..." The rest of the song dates back to the SMiLE era, though.
