We put up a front with most friends/lovers then when we do reveal our feelings and secrets we are often betrayed. (It's a thin veil between us.)
In this case he is probably referring to a friend or lover that revealed his secrets. (The dirty bird chirped away and scattered his secrets with his wings.)
This song is to me is about losing trust in someone you love but still trying to maintain a relationship. He doesn't want anyone else in his social circle because he feels like he can't trust anyone and must keep the veil between them.
Failing relationships where someone has betrayed you but you still care for them to the point where it drives you to isolation and jealousy. At a certain point you don't care to meet anyone because you trust no one and have lost confidence in the relationship. |

I see this more as critique of how we glorify all the cardinal sins due to a lack of an objective right and wrong. The modern left pushes the idea that morals and truth are subjective and therefore all lifestyles are valid and beneficial to society. This has led to a massive deficit in morality that leads people to glorify all that is a detriment to a functioning society. We glorify adulterers, the self absorbed, the prideful, the gluttonous (body positivity), the lazy (welfare and wealth redistribution) instead of promoting voluntary charity and cooperation. All of those in the spotlight, i.e. celebrities, are the role models for our nation so it isn't surprising that we have no hope left. The decent and the reasonable individuals amongst us are silenced while the extremes are amplified leading to an extreme division in everyone's minds and hearts. This division will lead us all to our doom. |

He wakes up each morning and sees all the hate in the world and it hurts his heart. To me, this song is about making the perfect human, while demonstrating how monstrous and far from human 'perfection' can be. It shows that flaws are what makes us human.
They take away everything that makes a human. The organs, the skin, the senses, the ability to fear and, most importantly, the ability to lie. "Without speech there will be no deceit". Fucking goosebump line, followed up by that giant, break-down-your-door riff.
It's perfection, except its not. I guess Meshuggah's trying to make fun of how extreme religion can become and how people will follow anything if brainwashed enough, regardless of how immoral it originally seems. |
