The Cranberries – Zombie Lyrics 22 years ago
Being Irish, and knowing a lot of Irish nationalists, this song is an inspiration for me. It's like the Cranberries took what half of the two countries think and shoved it in the face of the other half.
On the other hand, we're not fighting at the moment... Thank the gods for that.

Tool – Schism Lyrics 22 years ago
I've also had a lot of problems with the Christian religion, something my Catholic and Mormon friends aren't keen on. I loved this song the first time I heard it, solely because it is amazing music. When I read the words, I went out and bought the CD, having heard nothing on it but Schism. It's an excellent CD, but Schism blows away every other song on it. I completly agree with the religion aspect of this song, though it isn't hard to see what everyone is saying about relationships. I've had those relationships too. However, what turned me away from my Baptist self (it seems ages ago), is that I spent too much time talking religion with Methodists and Protestants and even other Baptists. Just as the Republican and Democratic parties see a different interpretation of the Constitution, each seperate denomonation interprets the Bible differently. Something so sacred and written by God himself shouldn't be butchered by people trying to gain their own ends. So what did I do? I searched for a new religion and finally grouped myself in the large "Pagan" category. Everything turned out great, even without church.
And I think that that is what Maynard is talking about. I think he is, like me and many other people, distraught at all of the people of the same religion bickering amongst themselves and polluting what was once great. Now it is mere rubble.
It's sad, really.

Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood Lyrics 22 years ago
I disagree. I think he's telling us that we spend too much time thinking about things that aren't important instead of opening our eyes and seeing what's going on around us. Lines such as "cause you don't see with your eyes, you percieve with your mind" point this out blatantly. Also the use of the words fictional and mystical help. "Hype shit" refers to all of the crap we meditate on such as what clothes we're going to wear or even what music we're going to listen to. I think that the guys are just saying that we're psuedo-simplifying everything and we need to stop. As for smoking marijuana... I don't see it. Could just be me.

System of a Down – Sugar Lyrics 22 years ago
Dude, Jove.... what? Calm down. It hurts to read the word circumcision that many times at once. Breathe.
I think this song is quite possibly meaningless. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see a clear-cut point to it. It's a great song, but I still don't see anything.
Oh well...

R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts Lyrics 22 years ago
Heh... this generation isn't all Fred Durst and Busta Rhymes. Some of us still have taste. I think R.E.M. is one of the greatest bands ever, right up there with Queen and Dr. Hook.

This is a deep song. I'm not sure I understand it, but it's deep anyway. I like it. Yes... Excellent... *steeples fingers*

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 22 years ago
I'm not sure about the details, but I've always thought of this song as Freddy's battle with AIDS. It sort of makes sence, realizing that when he speaks of killing a man, he is speaking about himself, and that he is acting as his own judge and jury. It's a song of self-dissapointment that he had gone and killed himself... Maybe it's just me...

Incubus – Pardon Me Lyrics 22 years ago
When I heard this song, I was awed at how well Incubus captured not only the feelings expressed in the song, but my personal feelings as well. It's not easy being a misanthrope. As soon as the song ended, I knew that if I ever got my book published (it's about a guy who deals with a lot of the crap that this song is speaking about and is known as the phoenix) that I was going to do everything I could for this to be on the soundtrack. This song is a perfect representation of teenage angst and adult frustration. It moves me... On a technical note, I prefer the acoustic version, but I can't find it on CD anywhere...

Tenacious D – Tribute Lyrics 22 years ago
As the only 16-year old male I know that isn't testosterone-driven, I can honestly say that "Tribute" is by far the best song on the album. This song is Tenacious D lyrical genious to the extreme. It's also one of three clean songs on the CD (Wonderboy and Dio are the others). Maybe it's just me, but that says something for music. Great music doesn't have to contain foul language to be awesome. Tenacious D is an unlikely source for that statement I suppose...
