the title doesn't really have anything to do with the song. pete yorn told it this way at a concert -- he was in california and he bought a used guitar, brought it home and wrote this song in about four minutes. afterwards, he said he noticed two things about the guitar. First, the neck had been cracked in half and glued back together, which meant the guitar store had screwed him. Two, on the back of the guitar someone had written "Nancy". As he put it "somewhere out there is a chick named Nancy who broke her guitar -- this one's for you" |

eddie got sick from food poisining and missed a concert. he was in bed for a full 24 hrs (saw the sun go down, now its coming up) and was semi-hallucinating. he imagined his illness to be brought on by the devil in the form of a red mosuito as a reminder that death will eventually come. |

eddie vedder had a corduroy jacket he used to wear -- like in the jeremy video. The song title comes from one day when he saw a rip off of his jacket on sale in a store for a few hundred bucks. Hence "they can buy but can't put on my clothes" |
