Vedder has repeatedly said that its not about Cobain's death, but i still think it is. The line 'cigar box on the floor' probably refers to the cigar box that was found next to Kurt's body. |

I heard somewhere that this was about a politician who killed himself in front of a lot of people, so i'm going to have to agree with dirkhamilton. This did come out after Cobain's death, but why would you even think that its about him? If you're going to look at it that way it could be about anyone's suicide. |

Its Oedipus complex, not Electra complex. Oedipus complex is the theory that males have an in born urge to kill their father and bang their mother. Electra complex is the idea the girls want to kill their mother and harbor sexual feelings for their father. |

I think this one's about casual sex. There's at least a few Live songs about this (unsheathed, deep enough). The band is influenced by Henry Miller, who writes books, at least the one that I read, basically about free love. I think this about a dude who has a one night stand with someone and she mistakes it for true love. |

I've always thought that this is about cobain not being able to live up to the media's expectation. There's nothing he can be/say/write that will make him feel like the icon that the public has made him. And the last line of this song always bugged me because everyone thinks its different, someplace sound like 'all in all is all we are,' 'all in love is all we are,' 'all alone is all we are,' or 'all we are is all we are' and it sounds like it could be any. If it is the last then it fits with my theory. He is what he is, and nothing more. |

I always thought the scratches referred to the subject slitting his wrists, i never thought of trackmarks, but that could be it too

I think this song is about a woman who was once well off and is now poor and off on her own . . . similar to like a rolling stone . . . or maybe i have it backwards. Either way these lyrics left out half the song. |

this is definitely the most emotional pearl jam song, at least to me. Its so accurate in conveying its feeling. I think "he who forgets will be destined to remember" is my favorite line in any pj song |

Yeah, this album is more mainstream, but i think its also one of their best albums, and this is definitely my favorite song on the album. They've been one of my favorite bands ever since superman's dead came out and they're still the same band. They've been going away from alternative/grunge and more to mainstream though ever since spiritual machines bc they got a new producer (bob rock). |

I'm thinking its about someone who has gone through something rough and only the live of the singer can help them. |
