I'm not entirely sure what this song means, but it's one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time. The lyrics are beautiful, and her voice is almost other-worldly. "This is an old song / these are old blues / and this is not my tune / but it's mine to use"....wow. |

I personally love this song; just a fun song to listen to. It always puts me in a good mood. I think the meaning of this song is pretty straightfoward: it's a song from a dog's point of view. He scratches at the back door because he needs to go to the bathroom; he'll chase things into a field; he wishes he was "fixed" so he isn't (sexually) frustrated; and he wants to be at the foot of their bed so he can protect them. Just a good song about something completely silly. |

The meaning is fairly straightforward. It is about the film Un Chein Andelusia (which is a French surrealist film by Salvador Dali, et al). There's a scene where a man is "slicing up eyeballs" and there a scene where a girl dances ("girlie so groovie"). The film is really screwed up, you know those surrealists.
Anyway - I think the song is really interesting in that it says that he IS the movie, "I am Un Chein Andelusia," and then he he wants to grow up to be a "debaser" (something with diminishes the quality of something).
All this to say that, to me, it seems like he's saying this is a movie that is bringing down the quality of movies in general, and someday he hopes to be able to accomplish the same (to the music industry, perhaps?) Don't know - weird reading of the song, I know, take it for what you will. |

Okay - yes, some of the things he says are a little "risque," and he's over played, but anyone who appreciates music can tell you that Eminem is far and away one of the best MC's in rap at the moment. He has an amazing ability to rhyme and he changes speeds with his rhymes like a true professional. For the most part, his songs have a personal touch to them (IE, they're about his life, which, I might add, was not an easy one) which helps the listener to connect with what he's saying. I hate rap (for the most part), but Eminem is kind of a diamond in the rough. And for whoever said that Eminem is just living off Dre's beats, if you read the liner notes of the new album, you would know that only 3 of the 20 songs were produced by Dre and "Without Me" was not one of them. So, if you're coming here to nay-say...I first suggest you learn to appreciate music as an art form, and also, obtain a sense of class somewhere and not go around posting heinous things about artists you don't like. You can't hate him that much or else you wouldn't have even come here. |

Actually - I was watching something (MTV|2, maybe) and they made a point to say that during her teenage years, Alanis battled many different eating disorders. They also said that it was one boyfriend of hers (an older guy, obviously (from the frist few lines of the song)) who caused it. He would tell her things like "I wish I could tell the world..." and "I might want to marry you one day if..." (both are lyrics in the latter half of the song), and that caused her eating disorders (along with other things). But the long answer to a short question is, YES, this song is about one person....and older ex-boyfriend. |
