Just let that sink in.

OMG you guys are trying too hard. He's pretty self explanatory here.
"The abortion that you had left you
Clinically dead and made it All that much easier to lie"
It's about him being pissed off that some girl had an abortion. It's not some metaphor, that's what it's about.
Actually, most of their songs are about him being pissed off that some girl had an abortion.
How no one noticed that Taking Back Sunday is clearly this pro-life band is beyond me. |

It's not on Youtube...but if you search for the Wonderwall single on Amazon it can be had for under $7. It's the best Ryan Adams song in my opinion and worth the money. |

I think this song is about someone taking the easy way out of a relationship. They won't say why it's really ending, or if she did anything wrong. It's fucking beautiful. |

After reading the lyrics several times, I think I'm getting a slightly different interpretation.
I definitely think it's more metaphorical...representing dating. I don't think its about an on and off again relationship, though. I think it's actually about two people getting into a relationship. If you've ever dated before, you've had failed relationships, you've been burned and hurt. At some point, you (typically) become jaded and distrusting. The problem with that is that before someone even has a chance to betray you, that seed of doubt is already planted because of the crap your exes have put you through.
"how many times do you want to die/how many ways do you want to die" is showing that. How many different ways can you be hurt or betrayed by these different people you meet? It's almost a sign of paranoia. Especially when he sings about feeling safe by looking over your shoulder. Its hard to trust, especially initially.
I also think when he sings "that's when we fell in love but not the first time" isn't talking about attempting the relationship with the same person again, but falling for someone new. Both of them are, but they were in love before.
I might be reading into things a little bit, but I think this song almost relates to "Future Foe Scenarios" I mean, think about it...with the song title and whatnot... |

| Silversun Pickups – Catch and Release Lyrics

This song is about a guy (the singer) setting himself up for a friends with benefits type of situation when it's not what the girl wants...and to get what he wants, he manipulates her. In the beginning, he pretends to mirror just what she wants from a potential significant other. I almost take the line "I know you're faking just a little bit" to represent his twist on things; that maybe she's faking the necessity of a relationship in lieu of something temporary and meaningless, which is what it is to him. She can be "excited 'cause [she's] giving it" which means that she should be satisfied. She's getting her instant gratification with the guy.
But of course, it doesn't lead into the things that she was impressed with in the beginning. He doesn't commit to her. He doesn't love her. He moves on, as he's released her.

This song seems to be about a failed relationship... where all the options and efforts have been exhausted. The only thing left could be just pretending to completely start over. What it would take to bring it back... |

Katy Perry's version is better. I can't believe she changed the lyrics to make it all G-Rated. Kelly Clarkson had something good going on with My December...now she's just generic pop again |

****please not that it's 2:20am****
This was one of my favorite songs growing up. I remember listening to it on my first day of high school, and thinking how prolific the whole "yeah man, we gotta grow up" part was.
Now, basically in my mid-twenties it represents something else entirely. Unbelievably.
It seems to be about drowning in a relationship. Losing yourself, but not in the classic sense of the phrase. You've lost yourself. You've retrogressed, plateaued.
And it's about the realization of saving yourself and what that will require--severing ties prematurely. Being the one to walk away. Accepting that if you don't end it, it will be the inevitable end of you.
Can you tell what I'm dealing with...? |

This is pretty deep for a 15 year old. As much as I'd like to think she's this lyrically talented, I hope it's not autobiographic.
Does she write her own songs?
Such a shame this will most likely not be on the record. |

oh this song is magical! I just read about Pete Wentz getting angry at its contents and sending a pissed off letter to the band stating that he wishes for them to stop performing it live because it hurts Ashlee's little feelings.
Is it sad that his comments actually made me look into the band? haha. great song |

this song is the country version of "You Oughta Know" :-P
It's pretty obvious what it's about: the guy cheated on her then proceeded to leave her for this new fling. When this happens to someone, it makes you not want to be in a relationship
Does it mean something that my ex chose this song to be his designated ringtone on my phone...and then he did EVERYTHING the guy in the song did? |

well this is my new anthem. I just found out that my ex moved to Utah to be with some skank he doesn't even know. But they're in love! DOES she know that he told me he'd hold me until he'd die? Less than 2 months after we ended he's with this bimbo? How can he not think of me? How can I not be insanely hurt... this isn't going off repeat for a long time |

Oh, if ever there was a more fitting song to my situation..
For me, this is how I interpret it: how can you tell me that you'll always be there, that you'll always love me, and all that fun stuff when in the end you prove that you won't?
I think it's the sudden impact of the truth. You lied to me. You broke my heart. You are a liar... now what, because I still love you. I think this song will be on repeat for the next year... |

It's hard to say what ANYONE really intends a song to mean when they write it... but this is what I take from it:
Maybe he broke up with the girl, or vice versa... and even though he may diss her or whatever, it doesn't change that he misses her and wishes that he could be with her. You know, I'm sure you've all been there. You hate someone who left you, but you'd still do anything to get back with them. I think it's like that |

I think that it's about looking back at a past relationship. Ryan loves victimizing himself, but in a way I think he also sees his flaws in this one ("loved you back then/but couldn't say when"). It's kind of like, it's over now, hope you're doing well... |

it reminds me of this guy I used to know. Things seemed so perfect between us, but at the same time I knew that things were actually pretty bad. I think that's what the song is about... how things can seem good in the relationship, but then there's just so much that is not right. It's hard to end it because of all that was good.
Anyone know Ryan's inspiration for this lovely tune? |

Oh my GOD can I relate to this one.
"oh she's fucked up" "oh I'm the only person she talks to, she sits in her room all day" blah blah blah. She wouldn't stop calling us (me and the boy) when we were chillin together. Seriously 10 calls in one night from her. She doesn't want to let him go.
I played him this song. It described everything I felt. You had your shot babe, and you blew it. He's mine now. Get over IT.
And I seriously felt like taking the phone from him and screaming that at her.
Yeah, I like this one. easy to relate to |

This one is a bit conflicting to me. It seems that the guy is completely obedient to the girl... but she's messing around with his mind. He has no idea what she really feels about him, is she *really* just using him or is there something more? He wants to just leave, but doesn't know how to let go just yet. |

This one is pretty self explanitory. You've been hurt, and it's hard to open up and love someone again because, well shit, are they going to pull the same things your ex did? The rational part of us tells us to run away, but when you're that attracted to someone, you can't help it. Maybe you'll be hurt again, but for the time being you don't care. You just go with it because of what you're feeling for that person. |

This is like the bitter/sarcastic anthem. It's like when you're numb... you're just sick of all the shit and you can't wait for it all to be over, yet you have some faith left. It's a conflicting feeling, much the reason why it's partially my anthem also ;) Just listen to the song when Laura repeats "The sun's gonna burn out some day... and I can't wait." It's hypnotic. Terrific song |

"Why do you have to be sloppy drunk just to say I am your friend?" That's it right there. The only satisfaction Art ever got in this song was when the person was intoxicated. It's when you've hit the point of realizing that you're the only one loving and caring in the relationship, but you're not giving up yet. Maybe saying "I would give everything you want/anything to you" will help, but likely it won't. This *has* to be one of my favorite EC songs. Too bad it's basically unheard of. Art himself even said that he never really finished the song. So sad. Also see Evanescence "Anything For You" |
