The intended meaning is very unclear, but some lines of this song remind me of myself(I'm aware that sounds a bit narcissistic..sorry.)
"To the centre of the city where all roads meet, waiting for you. To the depths of the ocean where all hopes sank,searching for you."-- This reminds me of a time in my life when I felt lonely and was searching for someone to rid me of that feeling.
"In a room with a window in the corner I found truth."---In the room that I spent my adolescence there was a room with a window in the corner. I spent alot of time in that room, alone, reading and searching for truth..
"Moving through the silence without motion."--Feeling unnoticed in a life that seems stagnant. |

To me this song expresses several things. It expresses anger and frustration that authority figures cause when they impose their will on you. "the seeds that are sown are no longer your own."
It also speaks of dumb people who will believe anything that they are told by polititions,teachers and other people in power. "A thousand words are spoken loud. Reach the dumb to fool the crowd."
"When you walk down the street
And the sound's not so sweet
And you wish you could hide
Maybe go for a ride...."
This line I can really identify with. People say alot of things that are ignorant/and or disturbing and sometimes I just want to hide away from it all. |

The Ice Age is when sheets of Ice covered a big part of the globe. In this song it is a metaphor for emotions freezing over. The two people stand holding hands but they do not smile or feel anything. There seems to be alot of atrocities between them and in the world and they do not wish to discuss them to make things better and to thaw out the ice that numbs them.

In my opinion this is written from the perspective of someone who is in a relationship but they are too preoccupied with their misery, too withdrawn in their own world to allow the other person to become anything more than a stranger. I think most of Ians lyrics are about himself so this probably refers to his relationship with Debby. And this line:" Get weak all the time, may just pass the time" refers to giving in to the tempation of infidelity. |

This is inspiring. Within the facade of the familiar lies "the stuff that dreams are made of." Sometimes when life seems dull and routine we need to adjust our thinking; to look deeper. People often have all these big dreams and they look right past the stuff that's right in front of them. This song also reminds me of the cotton commercials where people are doing simple things like an old lady hanging her laundry out on the clothesline,smiling at the fresh detergent smell..and theres a man,woman and girl child wearing soft cotton clothing and walking together.. Nobody sees things the way that she does. She is not satisfied with the common things that the majority is satisfied with. This creates a solitary life for her.

I don't know why these people get the idea it's about homosexuality. he DOES say "little girl". It seems to be about a man who was in love with a woman who is very immature. Even though she was immature and played mind games he continued loved her.
