This has turned into my favorite song on the album. I love how he sings it, his voice is so unique. I especially love how he sings the line "No dahlias and cherry trees. I don't recall them anyway". The use of the word armistice was clever as well. A piece treaty between quarreling lovers makes a lot of sense |

This is by far my favorite song on the album. I think its about a failed relationship but more specifically Matt's failed marriage. Like many alkaline trio songs about breakups, they really capture the emotions of that experience so well. I can really relate to the line "I climbed out limbless to the ledge to bask in my last true regrets". My last relationship is the only one i truly regret ever getting into. It totally rocked me and this song really speaks to how that feels. I also love the way Matt sings this line "I climbed out lifeless to the edge, I waved goodbye and leapt high". The trio really understand what a breakup is like, more than any other band ive heard. Love them and love this album.
PS: I thought that "brass fist" sounded really random haha. "abraxus" makes a lot more sense xD |

i think that everyone is right about this song being about a break up, its pretty obvious. I think the whole song, from the lyrics to the singing is perfect at conveying the emotions that one goes through during a break up. After it happens, you dont know what to do with yourself. You feel empty and hollow. You dont want to be around anyone, you just want to be alone because nothing that anyone says or does will make it better. If you were the one on the receiving end of a break up then you spend a lot of time asking why and just wanting things to go back to the way they were. You feel like giving up and in a way you do for a while. Shutting yourself off from everything and everyone, forgetting the things that made you happy before you met that person that broke your heart. Eventually you will "get over it" and it will get better, but when you are going through it, it seems like it takes forever. |

I think this is basically a love song. "waking before you, I've got a fever and a childish wish for snow" I think this line is Sam wishing for snow so that he can stay inside with his lady all day and not have to attend to any other obligations he may have. I think the next line is him commenting that its been to long since he and his lady held each other and just danced to music from the old radio, which may have some significance to their relationship. Basically i think this song is Sam wishing he could spend more time with the woman that he loves. I can relate to this feeling. i was once in a long distance relationship where we only saw each other twice a month. I often had this same feeling on the morning that i would have to drive back to college. I would wake up before her and watch her sleep and quietly wish that we could have more time together. there is never enough time i guess.

I agree with the last post. Even if paramore are christians, it does not mean they are a christian band. Etiher way, i think this song could possibly be interpreted as a praise song, but i personally find it to be a love song. I think the lyrics are very straight forward so i wont go into what it means, but this is my favorite song on the albume..not just because i enjoy screamo, but because this was a great display of hayley's fantastic voice. I love her voice, its soo full of emotion and passion..i only wish i was the subject of such passion and honesty... does anyone else think that this song is a sample of things to come? i think it might be because its the last song on the album and because its the only song with screaming..if they choose to experiment with this, i shall be very anxious to see what happens =) |

WOW this band paramore has totally and unexpectantly blown my mind. This song is one of my favorites off of their incredibly solid album. i think its meaning is what everyone else has stated: about a relationship gone wrong. I think that the ex-love of the singer is moving away and she's happy about it bc it means that she can get on with her life. but she still values him enough to write him a letter letting him no that she is ok w/o him...these guys have amazing potential and i look forward to hearing more of their stuff! |

I get chills everytime i listen to it, before i read everyones comments i had deduced fromt he lyrics that this song was about his grandparents and that James had died from alcohol poisoning possibly. this just give a glimpse of what widows and widowers go through when their partner dies, its like a piece of themselves have died as well..i can only imagine the etrenal heartache this would cause. Against ME! really make you feel these lyrics. a memorably song by a great band. The guy tells the girl he's fed up with being hurt all the time and that he's through with her. But he lied because he still oves her even though she screwed him over. this is the hardest part about breaking up, even when u know it was the right decision, its still soo hard to get those feelings to go away. |

To me, this song is about a breakup in which the girl screwed the guy over. By the sound of the line "How can You still breathe the air that I breathe Knowing the heartache that you are responsible for" she must have done something really horrible, like cheating. I love the emotion and pain that this song conveys. THP really knows how to construct very effective and heart wrenching songs and lyrics. This is my favorite song on the newer album. I think this song is just nick contemplating about all the things that he could have been. I know thats a really obvious answer, but its true. The 2nd verse on the other hand is about a girl that didnt want him i think. He says he could have been her lover which implies that maybe she didnt want him to be. Nick Drake is a great talent and is a perfect example of how great musicians die so young. All great musicians are tortured in some way and sometimes, unfortunately, that tortue is too much to handle for some. This is a fantastic song none the less |

I just want to thank layinginthegrass for being the 1st person to actually state what this song means. I also think that her interpretation was right on. A couple is together for a while and all of a sudden the girl is not sure anymore and wants to break up. The guy gets the signal and leaves before she can break his heart. it seems to me from the line "now i keep this line open to get this call from you as you speak the words
that keep me coming back to you" that the girl has broken up with the guy before and the guy took her back. But not this time, the guy wants it to be over for good because as much as it may hurt him, he knows now that this girl isnt the one for him afterall. That is a painful realization that i have just come too myself after being with a girl for 3.5yrs. She broke up with me for the 2nd time and instead of taking her back i said no. Extremely hard and painful thing to do. Rise Against explains this situation beautifully. The Unraveling is still my fav of thier albums. |

first i'd like to state that these lyrics are partially wrong. the last 2 lines of the 1st verse are as follows "has it ever occured to you. I'll be gone and you will too"..the 1st 2 lines of the chorus are also incorrect.. the correct lyrics are as follows "Ive wanted to tell you. So let me hold you."
now that i have the corrections out of the way, i think this song is a love song. The singer is talking about a girl that he is into but she doesnt live near. in the 1st verse i think he is saying that life is short and that he and his lady should spend as much time together as possible while they still can. In the 2nd verse i think he is saying that his life was very boring and uneventful before this girl "strolled over" into his life. The chorus is bascially saying that he just wants to hold this girl forever and never let go because he likes her so much.
this is a really great song, i listen to it over and over and over again..this is another great example of how the hurt process really does a superb job of ending songs in such a way that they make you want more...these guys are really really great screamo and if you dont know about them, get on it! |
